I never made it a big deal with my daughter.
It's different and it's natural, that's what makes boys, boys and girls, girls.

I believe if you make things secret from a child you create an abnormal obsession in them

Any age is fine, but the earlier the better. There is nothing wrong with knowing. At preschools, kids often come out of bathroom stalls iwth their pants down because they are still learning to use the potty and dress themselves. the other kids see, and they are very matter-of-fact about it. There is no giggling or anything. it is not as if a child who know what the opposite sex looks like is going to be sexual becuase they know. That is a little silly.

It depends on the maturity level of the child. My son was 2 1/2 when his sister was born, so he saw early on how a girl's private parts look while I changed her diaper. He's seen both Mommy and Daddy naked (not together!) and know what his body parts are called, and what a girl's parts are called. If you make it seem dirty or make him feel like he needs to be ashamed of his body or girls' bodies, it will be difficult for him to grow up and learn about sex and feel comfortable about his own body when it starts to change during puberty. The best thing is to be honest and answer any of his questions with correct terminology and keep the answers short and to the point.

I don't know why that should even be an issue. I don't think any parent should go out of their way to show their kid the opposites sex's private parts. When they become a teen believe me they will find there own way of finding out.

My first thought is "when they're old enough to use it", but that might seem harsh to some people. I didn't know what a penis looked like when I was little, I just knew boys didn't look like I did there. When we had sex ed in school, the drawings in the book were as graphic as I needed them to be at age 11.

Personally I think no big deal should be made out of it and hopefully they will see them kind of naturally from a very young age so it is not a mystery and all that down the road.

Whatever age the child is when they see you change a baby's diaper is right.

I have a little brother so I knew from the time I was young, but my mom first saw one when she got married to my dad. (28)

Don't make a big deal about it.
