Im 15 5'7", and weigh about 135. I play on the golf team for my school and it seems at every match all the players I am against hit the ball a lot farther than me. What are some good ways to get stronger and what areas of my body should i focus on? Changing my swing is not an option right now so please don't suggest that. Thank you

Hello

Actually in order to gain more power you should start working on the big muscles in your legs and torso, thats where all the pros get their power from.

Its always good to balance out a fitness program but in golf the legs equate to power. Also some good stretching exersizes will help.

Be prepared for the long haul though because nothing changes rapidly.

It's so much to do with the wrists that it is silly...Here is what Tiger did when he was a child.

He took the sections of his Sunday Paper (the LA times in his case) and crumpled each of the pages with one hand then the other. He did it not only with the Sunday paper, but with daily editions as well.

As long as you are accurate and can get the ball to the green on most second shots, there is not reason right now to do much more. There was a recent article in golfdigest (check at golfdigest.com) about the proper transfer of energy to add distance. Look for the October or November issues. SHow it to your coach or golf teacher and see if some of it can apply to you and your game.

The answers here show how much of an individual game golf really is. It is unbelieveable that you can see so many different opinions. Of course, before embarking on any training regimen, consult with a PGA or LPGA professional or your golf coach if s/he is qualified.

Scott in NY who plays great from 100 yards in and makes his hay there.

Work on flexibility. Yoga as silly as it seems is phenominal way of gain flexibility fast. Go buy a yoga video for $10 at Wal-mart and follow it for 2 weeks and you will be amazed. Also work on forearm strength as it will not only help your lag and whip at impact, it will also help you to square the face. Get a tennis or raquet ball and squeeze it while watching TV. Good luck

Changing your body strength will change your swing, so you'd better be prepared for the change.

Don't worry much about it. You can gain distance with an overall improvement of strength, flexibility, and a consistent swing, but it isn't the most important thing......just ask Fred Funk.
