Older pets that have problems jumping into the car or onto a resting place, therefor ramps and steps were created to assist them. They also have walking devices for dogs that are paralyzed because other than paralysis, the dog is in great health. Most owners care enough for their pets to provide the best for them, and keep them comfortable...and actually, BIRDS have always had ladders for cages.

Some breeds are prone to hip displesia and other problems that can make it painful for them to be picked up or jump. If I were a pet owner that had an older dog with a hip problem, I would consider doggie steps. They can help get heavy dogs in and out of vehicles also. I'd rather get doggie steps than try to lift an 8o pound dog into a SUV.
It is just like walkers, canes, ramps and other assistance for persons with disabilities. It is just a way to give independence to an animal and relieving someone else from having to transport them. If you slept with a dog for twelve years and they could not jump onto the bed anymore, you may consider this product.
Everyone has their reasons.
It's not like we are talking about Chia Pets here ......... :)

We will be getting them for our Dauchshund soon. Some breeds, like ours have the long backs and short legs. As a result, jumping can cause serious and painful injury for the dog in the form of a slipped disc. Our dog has slipped one disc so far and could slip up to 5 more as our vet tells us. So preventing jumping is a big thing you can do to reduce this risk of injury and the steps are perfect to help with that.
Not all dogs need this, just certain ones/breeds. Age and body shape play a major factor as to if this is something that would be beneficial for a dog.

Doggie steps are made for dogs with leg, back or hip problems who can no longer jump up on the couch or bed, or who cannot step up into the car or into a raised doorway.
The are a health aid, in much the same vein as "kneeling" buses, ramps, and chair lifts are for humans with physical handicaps.

It might sound ridiculous, but remember there are elderly dogs with hip, back and arthritis problems, who are unable to move easily. And who may be too heavy to pick up, or their owner may be physically unable to lift them.
We constructed a portable ramp, to let our elderly Great Dane get into the car. She had arthritis, and I couldn't lift a 150 lb dog. She loved her car rides, since she wasn't able to be very active, it was a great way for her to get out. Then she could walk down the ramp, because jumping would have hurt her hips. It was a great help in taking her to the vet too.

I have been looking for some of these! Some dogs, like my basset hound, Lulu, are not supposed to jump because of their backs. This would allow her to get on the couch with the other dogs, or ono the bed when we let her. Also, olderr dogs have a hard time jumping up and down like they used to.
