It will be really high, but there are several things that can help you save money. Good student discount for good grades, good driver discount for no accidents or tickets, and some insurance companies will give discounts if you have taken drivers training or a short course on safe driving skills. Next, buy an old car that you can pay for with cash so you do not have to pay for collision or comprehensive coverages. Rates will drop over time as you hit 21,25, 30 etc. and also when you get married. Finally, most companies tie your rate to what is called an insurance score which is tied strongly to your credit score. Credit may not be a concern now at your age but it will become VERY important on down the line. Best wishes to you. Make sure you get several quotes to find the best rate, and do not settle for state minimum coverages as they are generally FAR to low.

Talk to your parents about going on their policy. It will be cheaper for you to be insured as part of a household. If you need to get insurance on your own, it will depend on the age of the car and the mileage, where you live (city or rural area), and whether you had been ticketed with your learner permit. The permium will also depend on the amount of coverage that you want - the state minimum to be legal or enough to cover you encase of an accident.

My suggestion is go on the computer websites for auto insurance and get an idea of what the different types of coverage will cost you. You can also call your insurance agent and they will give you good guidance as to what you really need and the cost.

As a general idea, my sons first car was 5 years old, 35,000 miles, no tickets for him, 17 years old and it ran about $800 every six months to be put on my policy. When he turned 18 and got his own policy the premium jumped to $1200 every six months.
