Yes you can. I do it all the time. It's a great way to color all kinds of stuff. But make sure you don't get rawhide wet or else it will develop a lot of bacteria. And it probably is not a good idea to get leather wet, and if you use that in your toys, make sure that it is 100% vegetable tanned leather. Anything else will have bad stuff for you bird. Also, don't use zinc or lead because it is very poisonous to your bird!! Use stainless steel or nickel instead. Good luck!

Good question! Yes it is safe to use food coloring. But a word of advice. I have a cockatoo and she likes to make birdie soup with some of her toys and food. If the toys get wet then the food coloring will come off and the water is colored.

Yes..it is safe. I use it often when making toys for my birds. Good question too. By the way, are there any other types of food coloring?

You mean like HUMAN food coloring?
"Want to have some fun with your bird? Get together for a toy making session! Of course, if you want to get much actual work done, it will probably be best if your feathered partner watches from a playstand. And by keeping the bird at a distance, you also ensure that it won't get its beak on any scissors, needles, or material packaging."

NO,NO,NO!Try to locate vegatable dye.that is what is used to color bird toys.Birds are huge chewers. If they are allowed to chew regular dye, they will get sick and die.Try plain cardboard toilet paper rolls. No dye on them. They will chew them to threads. You can spread a thin coat of peanut butter on it.good Luck, and thanks for asking..Sounds as if you are a loving bird owner.
