Hello, I'm 51/2 months pregnant and I'm not sure whether I should name my daughter Katie or Kate. I like Katie because it's so cute, fresh, fun etc. I like Kate because it's sweet, classic, and simple. Then again Katie can seem way to young and cutesie for when she's older. Sometimes I don't like Kate because it's just to short and a bit plain. Also I really don't want to name my baby Katherine, Kathleen, Katelyn, Katlin, and so on. Just Katie or Kate! My question is which name would all of you pick and why? Anyhow thank you so much for those who answers!

I’m leaning more towards Kate, now my husband wants her to be named Katie haha. I agree with what some of you said. I’ll probably decide when I first see her :).

I LIKE KATIE AND I KNOW YOU SAID YOU DIDN'T WANT TO NAME YOUR DAUGHTER KATHERINE OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT BUT JUST THINK IF YOU DID YOU COULD CALL HER KATIE WHEN SHE IS YOUNGER AND WHEN SHE IS OLDER YOU COULD CALL HER KATE. THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS. IT WILL BE NICE HOWEVER YOU DECIDE TO DO IT. OR NAME HER KATIE AND THEM CALL HER KATE WHEN SHE IS OLDER.WHEN YOU SEE HER YOU WILL KNOW..GOOD LUCK TO YOU AND CONGRATS ON THE NEW BABY GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had this same conversation with my mom the other day, because my cousin is wanting to name her daughter Katie. So I was telling my mom that I thought Kate would be better, since that would be her actual name and it would grow with her. Sounds better as an older woman than Katie does. But I would call my daughter Katie for the nickname. I love Katie. I thought about Katie Rose once before.
So name her Kate and just call her Katie.

Personally, I would name her Katherine or Kathleen, and then nickname her Katie.

Or, if it has to be the shortened version, think Kate, and still call her Katie as a nickname.

Think about when she's grown, and is making out some official paper. Do you really want her to have to write down "Katie" on a job application or a passport?

I was a nanny for a family that named their first daughter Katelyn with the middle initial C intending to call her 'K C'. After she was born she ended up with the nickname 'Kate'. She was such a good baby. She's now 16 still goes by Kate and is pretty, smart, and still so sweet. Not a nerd at all like someone above said. It's really which one you prefer to name her because you won't really know til after she's born which nickname is going to stick, Kate or Katie. I named my youngest Addison thinking we'd call her Addi but the more I heard it after she was born the more I hated it so she goes by Addison. Congrats and good luck!

firstly, check what name your parents gave you! then ponder about it and then decide which part of the name you want best! The letter K maybe good but you have to check the other alphabets too! if you wan to name the baby Kate, it will be superb! Katie will be too much of a trouble if she gets teased by the time she is 3 years old or 8. Go for it!

Katie - then when she's older she can get people to call her Kate if she wants, it wouldn't really work if you did it the other way around. Very cute name though, my baby girl is due in February I'm calling her Sara. Good Luck!

you can call her Katie as young and Kate when she became a teen. My friend's name is Katelyn we called her Katie but now it is only Kate! well that name reminds me of sweet and a kind person and my name is kinda close to Kate.

I would go with Katie, I've always loved the sound of it, and it isn't as blunt as Kate....

You go with what you like best! Or wait until you see your beautiful baby and you will know which one to call her :)

Good luck!

Call her Kate. You can always nickname her Katie if you want to. Other option that might work are Kaylee or Katrina.
