a black girl to call my son white boy and get away with it but when my son retaliates calling her brown girl my son is racist? Why should my son receive a suspension for it but the girl have nothing done about it? Why should she be considered to be being descriptive yet my son considered to be derogatory?

He only said it to make a point to the girl. At home when my boys call each other names I will call them it, then ask them how does that make you feel, then ask how they think it makes the other person feel, and they usually don't call each other that particular name again. It's an activity we do to get in the other person's shoes to better understand why certain actions are not acceptable.

Thank you everyone for suggesting I talk to the school. I initially planned on it but only received the notice in the mail today because the school is too cowardly to confront me over the phone with it. Heaven forbid the school actually call the parents when there is a problem.

I'm sorry, I'm laughing, but only because you have a clever son. No, it's not right that the double standard exists and he was punished, you may want to contact the school about it. It's not like he used a widely used derogatory term at her, he made a plain observation. (In fact if we want to get picky, he was more accurate since us "white folk" are more a fleshy peach color.) Good luck.

Call and talk to someone at the school, saying exactly what you said here. If that doesn't work, get a lawyer. It's not like your son called this girl by the "N" word. I could see if that was the case, but as she was just being descriptive, so was he is how it seems to me. You make a very good point. My best advice on that would be, like I said, just talk to someone at the school about it.

I would make an appointment to speak to the principal. Put your concerns in writing. This is an issue of respect for each other.I would let the principal know it is inappropriate for anyone to have to refer to race in a normal conversation unless it is to give a description to the police.By permitting one student to use racial comments without accountability and punishing another is clearly wrong. There must be zero tolerance for this behaviour. It reminds me of the book "Animal Farm".all animals are created equal, but some are more equal. That isn't a good message for the school to apparently sanction. NO RACIAL slurs regardless of race should be acceptable. The other student should have been suspended as well.Let the principal know you will also be contacting your school board regarding their policy on this issue. If you don't get any satisfaction have your P.T.A, work towards change.

you will face this tyoe of racism all through out their lives, as todays culture is based mostly on racism, in schools, stores, etc. i know its bad to say but its true. many african americans are teaching their children that "white people" are the bad people that owe them...then comes the nut jobs. it is an endless cycle, and nothing will ever be done. i am 16 and a sophmore in highschool and have seen it all my life, the terms often used most to contribute to racism are "white boy, cracker, whitey, wiger, and white a.ss mofo" (the last on i made up but you get the point) they will see it all throught their childhood years, but suspension is way harsh for your son, i would talk to the principle, if he/she is black you may need to talk to a school bord member. suspension and a racism charge sticks on his permant record for ever thus branding him a trouble maker. this really is a bad situation and it has happened to me many times and there is nothing to do about it...if only stupid parents who think the rest of the world owes them would stop breeding and let the smart parents go at it... o well that is never gonna happen, just hang in there and good luck...

Because black people are considered a "minority" and are extremely sensitive to the highly charged political side of it, while white people are considered to be the last available people to pick on. White men, in particular, since feminists have ruled women out.

Politcal correctness run wild.

And remember, I'm not overweight... just undertall. Hmmm.

Have you spoken to the school about it?? Equality should MEAN equality.

yeah, good questiomn, he even used the term brown girl, not black girl or n.... or anything. Sounds like a schoolboard issue. MAke sure you talk to the teacher and priciple in a cool, calm, and colected manner, then go to the school board. Not right.

This incident might not be fair. But u have to also realize that in life many things aren't fair.So just maybe this is a lesson for your child to learn and maybe u too. We all want to protect our children. On the other hand we need them to learn that no one said life was fair, Good luck

Go up to the school and say exactly what you said here. THat isnt fair at all. Especially if she was the one who said it first. You need to go straight to the principal for that. If they dont listen to you, then go to the main office for school district.
