My first question is is there any difference between a flat iron and a ceramic straightener? If so, what is it? I am going to purchase a ceramic straightener (which I believe is the same as a flat iron) and I wanted to know how exactly to use it and if I need to use any hair spray or gel to achieve the silky glossy effect that so many other people have. Also, should I wash my hair before and/or blowdry a little bit? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I don't know if this is relevant but I have very long hair, all the way down my back.

Always use a ceramic iron on a low setting. Plastic/metal irons are cheap and they damage the hair. Your hair doesn't have to be squeaky clean before straightening, but it shouldn't be greasy either, since oil will be more noticeable when your is straight. Never use a ceramic iron while your hair is still wet. Either air dry it or use a blow dryer (again, on a low setting + use a heat protective styling product) with a round brush, to smooth/straighten out your hair a bit. After your hair is completely dry you can start straightening your hair in sections. I would start with the back of the head first though, because some people tend to get obsessive with the front and they leave the back too wavy/curly.

I purchased a ceramic curling iron this past summer. I just took it out to use along with Ion's heat protecting straightening spray. The results were awesome. I love the ceramic product and hate it took me so long to give it a try.
My hair was straightened, silky and extremely soft.
Go with ceramic.

Use a ceramic, its better for the hair. A flat iron and hair straightener are the same thing, people just say different things. get a heat protectant spray or cream, use a hair serum after straightening.

You most likely get what you pay for. Quality hair merchandise will participate in larger then the most affordable. If you can not have enough money the fine available in the market then simply improve what you've gotten. There are well merchandise that do not rate plenty. Try special matters. I recognise what works for one man or woman won't paintings for any one else. I have very curly hair and I needed to chill out it simply to get the outcome I desired whilst I flat ironed it. But chemical relaxer used to be my final hotel, however i've flawlessly instantly hair after flat ironing it and that is what I desired. And one final factor, maintain your ends trimmed. That will supply you a blank seem while you straighten your hair. I wish that is helping.

The ceramic straighteners are better for your hair. It is best that you wash, condition, and thoroughly dry your hair prior to straightening it. For the shine you desire, yes, IT is a good product, but I have found some products at Sally Beauty Supply - ION Heat Protection Spray - It is reasonably priced and it is really good. I use it on my daughter's hair and she has thick hair. I use it on extensions when I have them in my hair and the spray helps me to blend my hair in where you cannot even tell that i have them in. In fact, all of the ION products are really good.

flat iron can harm ur hair but the cremic has speacail plates to not harm ur hair and if u get a good one ur hair would bee pretty straight like the CHI or the GHD I dont think u rly need something to protect it but the are stuff u could put to make it straighter or silker but if u go to a salon and buy it they probably who have like specail spray or oil to protect the hair but I only know that for the GHD and the CHI I have been using a cremic CHI for almost a year and my hair is ALOT more silky then my old wavy, poofy and frizzy hair! and I think my normal hair has become more straight just before I iron it. u should iron ur hair about 2 times a week so u dont damage ur hair and to towel sry but dont hair dry because u wil damage the hair with too much heat

There is really no difference between the 2 but it is good to wash your hair before you straighten it (dry) and the best way to get it silky is to spray some like CHI stuff on it that helps it not get burnt to a crisp!!!

Ceramic straightner protects the hair from burning, the flat iron of course will burn your hair if your not careful.
