A veil is a piece of material used to cover the face, either partly or fully.
The use depends on the context. In weddings it is related to the fact that it is supposedly bad luck for the husband to see the bride before the wedding.
In Islam, I think it's related to modesty, but I can't say for sure.

There were two veils in the Tabernacle used to separate the Holy Place from the Holy of Holies. They were curtains hung up on pilllars.
You are asking in the religious section. Also Moses covered his face with a veil.

a veil was used as a point of separation..from that which was sacred from that which was common or unclean...there was a veil in the tabernacle..and it separated the holy of holies from the other parts of the tabernacle..the holiest place was consecrated for Gods presence.....a very powerful thing ...is when Jesus died the veil was rent(torn)..because that signified..thta by his sacrifice he opened up the free way to God (of course it wasn't free since he paid the way).but it is free to us..we no longer need a high priest..IE another man to go to God for us ..we can go to God ourselves..God bless
