She is 1 1/2 years old and is very hyper. I don't mind her energy, but I don't want company who comes to visit to not come back due to her constant jumping and licking faces.

Possibly. But, I have a chihuahua, and she was fixed very very early, but she never calmed down. Certain dogs are hyper by nature, and my dog is one of those. But, ask your vet this question, and time will tell how she'll react. Also, thank you for stopping the amount of animals that are killed each year.

Spaying the dog will help to curb some of her energy levels, but you're also going to have to provide her with training to stop the jumping and face-licking.

I'm not a dog expert by any means, but if my wacky female boarder collie is any indication of typical, spaying alone is not the answer. It will take time and training and patience. There is a book entitled "Cesar's Way, by Cesar Millan, that you may find useful in understanding dog training and psychology. Search the the words "Cesar's Way" in any search engine for a multitude of pages regarding this book.

A dog calming down after being fixed is more associated with a male dog being nuetered, than it is with a female being spayed.

I don't think it will calm her.I had my dog spayed when she was younger and its made no difference at all shes still hyper.
I think some training might help her,but all dogs have different personalities, maybe you could speak to your vet.

Yeah she will calm down somewhat, but you need to train her not to do things like that.

What kind of dog? Some are hyper by breed, not by their ability to breed! She may or may not settle down ... check with your Vet.
