Basically I am a Christian, non denominational.
The purpose of religion is to believe what you feel in your heart is correct. Faith on the other had is not religion per se' but the belief in something you were told by a trusted source as real. Not all religions (today) believe in a ONE God who created all or loves us ALL. It is true we will all die one day.
Even back in ancient times, Egyptians and Myans believed sacrafice was a large part of their belief in their God(s). Understand the difference between Killing in the Name of God vs. Killing FOR God.
People have been killing each other over religion for thousands of years. If one truly believes in the Christian God, they do not kill in his name. If you are refering to the war in the Middle East, maybe you should review why we are really there. It has nothing to do with God.
The Christian God is neither Selfish or altruistic. Maybe it is time for you to reevaluate your religious beliefs.

God is a he and I am a Christian. I believe that God is the only God. He created all of this world and He created all the people in this world. His son, Jesus ,is the only way to get to heaven. We also believe that sin is very bad and the Devil is the person that provokes us to do those bad things(sin). God did created All. God is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient. God is everywhere. God has been alive for ever and ever. Even before he created earth. He was alive and He will still be alive when He destroys this earth. He lives in heaven with the angels and His son,Jesus. People that have excepted Jesus Christ as their Saviour and have died are also in heaven. And one thing that scares me is that God knows everything about me,you, and everyone in this world. He knows all of are weaknesses and are strength. God is a God with lots of mercy , kindness, and love. But He also judges. I always pray to God so He can help me in life so I can do the right decisions. I hoped I answered your question.
Merry Christmas!!!

Lol you ask a question and then say you don't care what we think!.. lol
Anyways, maybe .. just maybe that is a God created in the image of man, a construction that is based in literalism and fundamentalism off of an allegory. Perhaps the truth is everyone abides within God, and God isn't a corporal man like guy sitting in the clouds typing on his laptop judging people because they not worshipping him. Paul's definition was, "In him do we live move and have our being," that we abide within the mind of God, and it is more so Creative forces and the one substance in which we have invigoration and being. Besides as it goes according to most movements roots, the only way to know God is to know thy self.

I believe in the religion of peace. I encorporate a lot of the principles of Buddhism into my life. After studying all major religions it is the one that reaches out to my being the most. There is no hate in Buddhism as there is in the other religions. While I do not align myself with the Theravada temple anymore, I do think that living through the principles of Buddhism is much more healthy than other religions that preach a 'hell' for non-followers of their religions and breed nothing but violence and hate. I think that meditation is a tool that is great for anyone, no matter what their religion, to use.

"Because god did it" or "Because god said so" is a dead end. Why would one bother to do medical research if death and illness is just god's will? Why study the universe, or try to understand our world and our selves?
Just live in a cave and say god did it. If he wanted us to drive he would have given us wheels.
Christianity doesn't stop anyone from sinning, it just lets them pick which sins they care to participate in and then repent. However, they feel free to damn others who participate in the "sins" that are of no interest to them.
It's a cheap shot on their part, but it sure seems to make them feel good about themselves.

Truth.
As for the 2nd question, I think this happens because loose following of God's suggestions for us may actually threaten the lives of others

If you "don't care what you say!" then isn't it rather silly to post this as a question? Since, if you don't care, it must not bother you to ask...
At least you are seeking, and that's a good thing. Don't give up.

I believe in Jesus Christ. He commanded us to love one another. He never asked us to kill each other, and he gave his life for us. There is no better example to follow than that.
