Anyone has had negative side-effects?

I take 150mg of Wellbutrin XL - it is essentially known as the best antidepressant in that it does not cause sexual dysfunction or weight gain, as opposed to the SSRI's (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors - e.g. Lexapro, Prozac) which are synonymous for decreasing labido and weight gain.

Wellbutrin (buproprion hydrochloride) is derived from diethylpropion, which is an amphetamine like substance. The drug works by inhibiting the reuptake of the neurotransmitter, dopamine and some what on norepinephrine. Dopamine is focul to your brains reward system, where keeping this neurotransmitter around longer, will create a more pleasurable state of mind. How it effects creativity is ultimately dependant on the person.

The side effects are similar to amphetamine, which include restlessness, tremors, anxiety, loss of appetite, weight loss and insomnia. These side effects are mild and usually go away within 2 days to 2 weeks.

The more serious side effect is that you can be exposed to an increased risk of seizures. This becomes problematic for people with anorexia where wellbutrin should be avoided.

When Glaxo first released Wellbutrin in 1989 it had to be pulled of the pharmacy shelves because the dosage indications were too high and caused a high amount of seizures.

Not too wory, as since then the SR (sustained release taken twice daily) and newer XL (extended release taken once daily) versions have been released to minimize side effects.

As per all Psychotropic medication, there is a risk for sucidal thought, ideation or attempts. If you have a history of any of these and have to take antidepressants, it's recommended that you begin taking the meds under supervision, by either a family member or in a hospital.

The efficacy for Wellbutrin will be reached in 4 - 6 weeks, so be paitent.

With the name Lina, I am going to assume you are female. So am I. I've been taking Wellbutrin for about two months now and let me tell you it DOES affect your sex life. Honestly, I have not wanted it more in my entire life, I'm pretty sure my boyfriend is happy about that too. I saw that some posted about delayed orgasims, well that is not always the case. It is more like super sensitivity to everything. As far as with creativity I have not experienced any adverse reactions from the Wellbutrin.

There are many other potential side effects. I have lost about five pounds since I started it. I also have to carry chapstick and water around with me cause my lips and mouth get so dry. I've been told hard candy can help with this one as well. When I first started it there was an increse in my already high levels of anxiety, which required the use of another medication. Any other q's feel free to contact me.

hmmmm.....well if you really think about it, your girl seems to be holding back maybe because she does not see much in you (no offense). Those simple excuses she is making is typical for a girl who has no interest in someone she's with. Its a way to sugarcoat her real feelings. Now at the same time a woman who has had a very active sex life in the past sometimes just do not feel like having sex almost everyday. Sometimes it happens. But I have to say some of those excuses your girl is making are just rediculous! She feels fat lately!?! What does that have to do with sex??? You let her know that you love her for who she is apparently. I don't know about the marraige thing, man. If she is so uptight about your sex relationship now, imagine how it will be once you two are MARRIED. You'll never hear the end of the excuses!!!!

Wellbutrin makes people go crazy. I have two friends who took it to try to stop smoking and withing a couple of days both of them had suicidal thoughts.

Get off it if you are on it. Do not take it if you are contemplating taking it.

Wellbutrin is a killer. Doctor's should know this.

Frankly, they should take this drug off the market.

It can and most likely will cause delayed orgasms. for most guys this would be great because they tend to *** too soon anyway but for a female it can be bad because they seem to take forever to reach orgasm on a normal basis. as far as creativity?? I seriously doubt it will have any negetive effect on that part of the brain, in fact it may even help if you are taking it for depression.

I was taking it and it kind of turned me into a zombie. I would worry about it affecting your creativity.

I also used it to help me to stop smoking. It made me feel as though my whole body was full of Mexican jumping beans!! I took myself off it after about 5 days.
