I would recommend the Dominican Republic, if Puerto Rico doesn't cut it for you.

Although its unemployment rate is at about 17%, if you have experience in communications, transportation or toursim industries, you could get work if you speak Spanish (and English for tourism industry).

DR has low HIV rate at <2%, and interestingly, has a median age of 24 (men and women), with a life expectancy of 70 for men, 73 for women.

Don't confuse DR with Dominica. Dominica has the highest crime rate in the world. Locations you could visit to get a feel for the country, try Punta Cana (1), and La Romana (2).

Personally, I love the place!

I think Puerto Rico would be your best choice because you can put your kid in all english school or a bilanguage school. He would not have any problem ajusting with the language if he receives it everyday in school. Puerto Rico is more city and has more to do than the others islands in the Caribbean.Hope it helps!
