The Iraq Study Group has put forth their suggestion that many more American forces should be interposed among the Iraqi forces. We are fighting on different fronts in Iraq-and the terrorists, both Iraqi and foreign, are one of them, as well as the sectarian violence militias like Muktada al Sadr. How safe should our guys/gals feel taking orders from an Iraqi general? Would you?

Although they may be working side-by-side, American troops only take orders from American officers and NCO's, unless they're assigned to NATO or the U.N., where you have military commanders from different countries in charge of certain areas and the troops deployed there.

Another problem with having Iraqi officers commanding American troops would be the language barrier. Not that there aren't Iraqis who speak English as well (or better) than some Americans, but in a life and death situation communication is vital. Also, the U.S. forces here are more and more in a support role, so the the new Iraqi Army can get more first-hand experience and still have the U.S. there for back-up.

Good God no. Let the Iraq study group come over here and take orders from the Iraqis if they think it's such a keen idea. American generals are getting enough of us killed over here.

..An Iraqi General cant and wont be able to command American Troops. If somehow they get the authority to do that, that will be the day that America needs to get the hell out of there. (Which isnt something I would normally say if youd seen some of my other answers)
