I thought about it for errr....no time at all....clearly you are having a laugh. If you were on a bike you would be one less car and emitting...oh...nothing. I think bikes just annoy you and you are clutching at straws. Funny how a 12" circle of red light stops a £20,000 wastemonster, but a little £15 bike can just cruise through -bet that annoys you too. Horses and carts had a higher average speed than most cars in cities and a bike is easily the fastest way to get around, without emissions and without killing people or making them breathe polluted air.

You're wrong I'm afraid.
Firstly, the way you drive your car is your choice. If you drive smoothly and avoid harsh acceleration and braking regardless of what's on the road, you'll put out less emissions. I suspect your forward vision isn't too hot.
Secondly they have as much right to the road as you do - they were there fist. It's hardly the cyclists fault that the cycle lanes in this country aren't Worthy of the name.
Thirdly, they represent one less car in your way on the journey home. you should be thanking them.
In response to the comments so far on the behaviour of cyclists regarding red lights etc, I'd accept that it's wrong and that unfortunately it's a small percentage of cyclists that give them all a bad name but the same can be said for the car drivers who jump red lights, tailgate and overtake dangerously.
Incidentally, have you ever broken a speed limit? None of us are without fault.

If it is that difficult to overtake a cyclist safely and smoothly, perhaps you should not be driving at all.
Cycles = No, emmisions, no use of fossil fuels (excluding oetroluem based compounds used in the manufacture), reduced space, more enjoyable.
Cars = Emissions, use of non renewable fossil fuels, and from your own admission a lot more stressful.
No need to tell you the obvious, the math is there.

I think it's great that people choose to bike, but some of them are just as inconsiderate as the people driving cars. First off, you're either a pedestrian, or a vehicle. Bicyclists where I live like to be considered a vehicle, when it's convenient for them (ie, we have as much of a right to the road as you do). But then they also want to be able to use crosswalks. Also, I have had many a biker swerve right out in front of me on a busy street. It blows my mind, because they have to be aware of the fact that they will lose a battle with a car. So it's great if you want to bike, but please be responsible, and don't act like all drivers are assholes. I choose to carpool, because I live too far away from my college campus to bike, and I don't want to get hit by a car. Deal with it.

Work out the following:
The total £ spent per year on car purchases.
The total £ spent on fuel.
The total £ spent on road tax.
The total £ spent on insurance.
The total £ spent on MOT.
The total £ spent on maintenance.
The total £ spent on emergency services for accidents.
The total £ spent on tyres, battery's, exhausts.
My calculator is not big enough to show the total £ billions.
As a country as a whole, without nobody spending on the above, the government could actually make public transport and a national taxi service absolutely free of charge.
There would also be a huge reduction in environmental damage, road deaths, road rage, traffic jams.
We are already spending the money, we are just spending it on the wrong things.
The roads would be deserted except for the buses & trams & free taxis. Then they would be much safer for all of us to use bicycles for all of the millions of local journeys (under 1/2 mile) that we all take at present by jumping into our cars.
It is a basic fact that most traffic in our towns and cities move slower than if you actualy walked in the first place.
So, in 10 years time = complete grid lock, if not sooner !

Strange, I have exactly the opposite problem. Here I am, cruising along on my tenspeed with my tree under my arm, and ahead the road is clogged with idiot drivers who just have to drive solo into the city intead of carpooling or taking public transit. So I and my tree have to sit and wait, I uselessly exhaling greenhouse gases, my tree gasping from car fumes, until some rebel driver actually has the courtesy to leave a little room for us and let me gain another 20 feet. Get off the road, commuters! You're plugging them up.
BTW, stop-then-go at a red light is good for both the biker and the driver. As a pretty fast rider, I can get to the next light without any car traffic to deal with, and they don't have to deal with me. I know it's illegal, but luckily enforcement is pretty lax where I live, possibly because the cops understand the benefit. Could jealousy be fueling resentment of this practice?

You have a point there!
And don't you really hate it when they just cycle through red lights or cycle up onto the path instead of stopping at a red light. Most of them don't use hand signals so you know which way they are going and they swerve all over the road while your behind them, making it dangerous to overtake them.
