How on earth is it possible that the best answer to ”Taken’s” question: How do you say Peace on Earth in German? was chosen to be “Paul T’s” ’Frieden auf Masse’, which is total bullshit?
’Masse’ means earth only in an electrician’s context.
The correct answer is: Friede auf Erden as mentioned by some, but they were overruled by a dumb majority of electronic translators!!!

Step One: Ignorant person asks question
Step Two: Many ignorant people answer the question to get 2 points
Step Three: A few knowledgeable people answer the question to give a correct answer
Step Four: The ignorant person must then decide which of 40 wrong answers and 3 right answers to select
Step Five: The ignorant person selects a wrong answer OR
Step Six: The ignorant person leaves the decision up to the community
Step Seven: 5 ignorant people vote for the first answer in the list to get points for voting
Step Eight: 2 knowledgeable people vote for the best correct answer
Step Nine: The first wrong answer wins
Step Ten: One of the knowledgeable people writes a comment in frustration to correct the wrong answer, but no one ever reads it

Because some people know nothing about the questions or the answer. They just want points. It is very unfair to the people who have taken the time to give, or properly research, a correct answer ,and also to the person who has asked something in earnest, does not know which to choose, and hopes that people will guide them to the best answer through voting. They end up with something totally misleading or even ridiculously facetious that is no help at all.
Let's face it many people use this website as a game of conkers and are bound to mock you for being annoyed.

Like you say many use those stupid electronic translators which normally are absolutely wrong.

The problem is that if the person asking the question has no clue about the answer and sees that most have the same translation coming from a translator (of course), he/she assumes it is the right answer.

That is why they should never pick an answer from web translators but from native speakers.

i noticed this too and not just with translation questions
some answers chosen are blatantly incorrect
i think some answers are chosen because it is what the asker wants to hear or even because the answerer has a "CUTE" avatar(i say this because i have seen it in the response to best answer response)
