I wouldn't send out a big "Count your blessings!" card, because that can sound condescending. But the world doesn't stop when a person dies, and it's healthy to continue doing the things that you would normally do. It's perfectly acceptable to send seasonal cheer at this time.
Good for you for taking the time to think of the feelings of others, though.

No its not tacky. Even if lets say you wont be enjoying the holidays as much this year with him gone there is nothing wrong with you wanting to wish others a very merry christmas and new year. Anyway I doubt that he would of wanted you or anyone else to be all depressed during the holidays because he is gone. Then again he really isnt gone even tho his body might not be with you all but his memory still is and along with christmas you can also be celebrating all the wonderful memories of him. At least thats the way I look at it.

I think it's absolutely ok to send out Xmas cards. In fact, it might be a nice way to add an extra "thank you for all your support during this difficult time" note to those people who have been helpful in the past weeks.
It's ok be mournful, but it's important to keep living your lives.

Not at all...It would however be tacky if the family included the deceased man's name on the cards.

No. If anything, a death in the family can make you grateful for your friends who are still around. Send away!

No, just dont send them the ones that you are sending everyone else. There are some that express the time of year and will also convey your sympathies to what they are going through.

No, I think that it'll help your family grieve and get pass his death. It'll show that your family isn't letting the death of your dad take over your lives and that you guys are trying to move on. Sorry for your loss. hope your holidays are filled w/ bliss.

Yes, tacky. Christmas should or would not be merry for you and your family because of your bereavement, so you shouldn't wish others Merry Xmas too so that they have to wish you in return.

yes, why not? you can keep thinking and loving your father in law but that doesn't mean that your whole Christmas will be screwed over.
