i have always looked after my teeth, go to the dentist every 6months, cleaned them twice a day but now i have a cracked tooth which is giving me pain. My dentist has drilled and refilled to see if it would hold but it needs to come out. He can't fit me in till Tuesday next and paracetamol are the only meds i can take, which isn't really helping. Any ideas of something to rub on the gum or a mouth wash solution. Thanks in advance.

Bonjela is good - its not on prescription. Its a clear gel that you rub on near the tooth. Try your supermarket (or chemists). About £2.80. Can cause headaches if used too much.

I have 2 children and 1 on the way. The absolute worst pain I've ever been in was when I had nerve pain due to a horrible toothache. No joke. A normal toothache, no big deal but I don't think anything could be worse than nerve pain. ETA: I've never gone through labor without an epidural so I can't compare those 2.

Beware! Certain remedies (e.g. clove oil) work using the same mechanism that local anaesthetics use for numbing up the teeth for dental work - including that extraction you're due to have next week. There is a risk that you may build up a drug resistance if you use it excessively, thereby making anaesthesia difficult for your dentist to achieve when it comes to having the tooth extracted.

Paracetemol or Ibuprofen are the best bet for dental pain, used according to the instructions. It might also be a possibility for you to find an emergency dentist who could carry out treatment before your dentist can.

like a lot of others said, clove oil is great but if you can't tolerate the taste then a chamomile tea bag steeped and either popped in the fridge for minute or in the freezer for ten minutes (depending on weather you prefer heat or cold ) can really help and the taste is generally better.

Clove oil is excelent it numbs the teeth but it tastes awful and can burn your tongue so use it with those tiny cotton buds you get on sticks that you use for your ears.
I had a crack in one of my teeth and a few seconds of that stuff and it stopped hurting you need to re-apply it every few hours though

there is a tooth desensitizing product available at most drug stores - cost about 5.00 and you rub on with a q-tip. It will help with the sensitivity of hot and cold foods and help some with the pain. Also try Oragel for tooth ache pain . Hope this helps you some!!
