Does anyone know how the membership works? Do you make payments on the membership fee?
My fiance and I are going to get the grand tour next week, but they won't give you any information up front. I know the membership is expensive, but I also know we'll need it for the addition we're doing to our house. You have to decide if you want the membership when you go, so I wanted to know what exactly I was looking at up front.
Thank you!!

I am a decorator and I met up with a client that belonged to the club.

I was disappointed about the entire process, the service, etc.

It's all catalog shopping. The Direct Buy 'librarian/decorator' was of no help. She did not know anything about coordinating items, etc. She works by commission so she was trying to push things onto my client that he did not need for his space or things that would not work properly.

She turned out not liking me because I was protecting my client from unnecessary purchases.

The downside is you spend a lot of money for a membership. To make up for it, you almost need to furnish your entire home. Yes the prices are slightly lower than what you would find in the store, but keep in mind the membership you just dished out. In the end, you pay the same amount as if you were to purchase in the store.

Anyway, my client walked out of Direct Buy not purchasing anything that day from them and purchased his items through me, and within the budget he originally wanted to spend.

You may save a little on the cost of furniture & home improvement products, but when you add in the membership fee, the savings arent that great (especially if you are a bargain shopper). Maybe you should look at furniture ads before going so that you have something to compare to. Mabe even pick out a specific item that you like and see if they have it, and what their price is when you go for your tour.

There was another question about them in this section, and so far the only feedback has been negative, so I think you and your fiance may want to think about some alternatives before getting into something that's going to require a membership.
There are hundreds of different furniture and home decor places on line (I know, my wife has tons of them listed in the Home & Garden section of our website), so you might want to reconsider & do a little internet price comparison before joining.

I found out the membership costs $3999.00. Very pricey for what you get.

You would be better off going to www.overstock.com. My mother in law got a really nice bedding set for my step-daughter for her apartment really cheap on there. They have furniture, bedding, bathroom/kitchen accessories.
