I am a mech, so forgive me for diving in on an electrical problem....but....a 1HP motor will only consume power if it is transmitting torque. If you mean "no load" as in it is uncoupled, then the only power consumption will be to overcome mechanical and electrical losses within the motor.

Maybe I misunderstood the question.

What is the cost of using a 1-HP motor for 1 hour if the cost is $$$.$$ per kilowatt hour?

W(kilowatthours) = Pwt/1000=(1hp*746w/hp)(1hp)/1000 = 0.746 Kwh

Cost = (0.746 kwh)($.$/kwh) = $.$

Good luck
