I was getting up from the couch yesterday and hurt my back somehow. It hurts in the lower middle, and seems to hurt worse after I've been still for a while ... is really bad after I've been sleeping. I've tried the heating pad and ibuprofen. I also have some cramping in front which may be caused from switching birth control pills. Anyone know what else I can do for the pain and what might be causing it? I have no health insurance so I'm hoping it's nothing major.

Calcium/magnesium tablets help naturally calm muscles and/or cramping. Take with food.
Also, if the heating pad didn't help; try an ice pack. Use frozen veggies, if you don't have an ice bag.
Typically,
Rest
Ice
Compress
Elevate
(RICE) works, but...you might try some very gentle stretches, also. And, if you can, ask a friend for a back massage. this will help increase blood flow, as well as flush out any trapped lactic acid which may contribute to muscle pain.
As always, drink plenty of water. It does help relieve back pain.

I get a pain just like you described sometimes. I attribute it to how I was sitting (my sitting posture). I find that Bayer Back and Body pain reliver works quicker than ibuprotein for me. I'd suggest it along with resting. Heat pad or heat wrap might help too. And notice how you are sitting.
Are you sure you didn't strain it earlier in the day? Sometimes those strains don't hurt until a little later.
I doubt it's anything major, but if it gets worse or lasts more than a few days, I'd see a doctor just to be on the safe side.
Ummm, not sure whether the cramping is related or not, since you think it might be pill related. Think, did bot pains start at the same time?

you probably strained your muscles. It has happened to me. Don't do heating pads now, you will only make it worse. Ice is a very good form of pain reduction and also brings down the inflammation in your muscles. Get a ziploc bag and fill it with ice. Wrap it around with a face towel and apply it on your back for 10 minutes at a time. Leave off for 20 minutes and then put it back on for 10 minutes. Do this throuhgout the day. Keep taking your ibuprofens. Hope this helps you. get well soon.

I'm 50, and whilst that occurs my wellness consultant has me take Ibuprofen (my prescription agony killer would possibly not even paintings intent it is one other variety of agony) & practice progesterone cream (in one other spot at any time when) from the wellness meals retailer as soon as an afternoon till my drift stops. The ibuprofen stops the agony, the progesterone fixes the obstacle for the following time round, for me a minimum of.

Try lying down straight with your back on the ground and your face looking up when you want to sleep at night. Take note on the ground.

Doan's Pills may help. They contain magnesium salicylate which may help with the cramping too. You may need a chiropractic adjustment.
