There are different species of Jays...Blue Jay is one of them, also there are Western Scrub Jays, Stellars Jays, Gray Jay, Green Jay, Brown Jay, Gray-breasted Jay and Pinyon Jay, etc. You may just be seeing difference in individuals coloring. Sometimes males will tend to be a little brighter than females, and adults will be a little bighter than juveniles. When they molt, colors will get brighter or duller too.

I don't think there are different types of blue jays, but i know that other animals can have a slight change in color depending on their diet. Flamingos are pink due to a certain bacteria they eat, flamingos that don't eat it are primarily white. Colors are different between males and females also, maybe males are slightly darker then the females or the other way around. But hey, i'm no bird expert.

I don't believe their are various breeds of Blue Jays. Male birds are generally much brighter colored than the females. The females are usually a much duller shade while the hues of the males are quite breathtaking.

The blue jay is one of many breeds of the jaybird. There is also a grey jay. You likely saw a female blue jay, rather than a grey jay however.
