I can't imagine how you'd be offending anyone. I think it's a great idea.

You can schedule the party whenever you like. Most people do things in the evening on New Years Eve anyway and this is during the day. If people are away for the holiday you may get low turnout, but its still your party to plan.
My niece is born mid-December and her parents typically have her bday party in late October or early November - - waaaaay before her actual bday and that ticks me off to no end. If people don't like the date their kid was born, they should have planned their kid a little better (i know not everyone has that luxury, but many people that want to have kids could be mindful).

i don't think it is rude at all. it is a bit risky because either everyone could come or only a couple could make it. if you send the invitations early, like, tomorrow, then your turn out might be ok. i know that the last thing i want to do is go out and buy another present christmas week and wrap it, etc. but if i knew about the party i could already have it done.
it might also be something fun to do christmas week. i know we always like to do fun things each day and not waste our holiday so it is a mni new years party for the kids.
it could be a great idea but plan in advance and definitely have them RSVP and if they don't call them and ask! :)
have fun and Happy Birthday to your daughter! SD

I don't know about rude but I don't know how many guests you'll end up with. Many of the parents will be getting ready for their own parties that day and may very well skip yours.
Why not have it a week later. Four year olds don't know the difference.
We had my son's 4th birthday party almost a month later because he got the chicken pox the day before his actual birthday.

Methinks that you shouldn't worry about it. And here is a thought; You did your 4 year old in the daytime, where as adults should be at their best behavior(Sometimes) when children are around. Giving time to them also. Now New Years EVE, you've left it for where as adults like to wind down, relax, enjoy a party and so forth. (Usually children are asleep, or at-least supervised while the older crowd get their groove. ) So good plan so far!

No, you are not offending people......
However, it's a very busy day for lots of people. My concern is that it may affect the number of kids that show up for the party. Your daughter may have bett attendence if it were moved to another time......
Just a thought .I wouldn't worry ,as she is only 4, but you may want to consider this in years to come....
Also, if it makes you feel better, you may offer a note of explanation, similar to your question here that explains your agenda. I'm sure some parents would find that somewhat helpful.

Do yourself and your son a favor and have it the weekend after -- you'll get a better turn out. This time of year is stressful for everyone. I don't think it's the best day to have a party.

It sounds like a great idea. That's the time of year your child's birthday is so what else can you do? What ticks me off is the people who plan their weddings on Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve and complain when they get a poor turn out - duh.

Why rude?
It is an invitation, not an order.
Our daughter’s birthday is on December 31 and we have never heard any complaints.
