Most gave good answers. The best I could add is do not punish. This happens. I would have your son be responsible to change the bed sheets and teach him how to use the washing machine and dryer. You can help him on how to make a new bed. These are skills that he can use for the rest of his life. By showing him that he is growing up and to take responsiblity is a great lesson. When he gets older show him how to iron and sew a button. Believe me he will appreciate this later in life to be self sufficient.

Since he is 6 he is going to bed early. Do not give him any milk or hot chocolate or sodas at night and cut off all liquids after eating the last meal. You must personally make sure that he goes to the bathroom to pee before getting into bed even if he tells you he does not need to. You should put pull-ups on him and reward him when he goes a week without wetting them. Try waking him up when you go to bed and take him to pee which may take some effort.

I had the same problem with my son. He sleeps so soundly,,, I mean once he is out... he is out for the rest of the night. I was told by my Doctor::::Do NOT give your child any forms of milk or milk products after 3pm. So, I quit doing that and he did not pee the bed again. For some reasosn, milk makes you "sleepy" (I don't feel the difference if I drink milk or not ..if I am sleepy.) But for some reasons...it does something to your brain subconcously. However...warm milk is always good before bedtime....I think that is the best way to explain it.
Just to warn you: You son may wake up in the middle of the night the first couple nights wide awake...like he thinks it is the first thing in the morning. I freaked out when my son did that on the FIRST night!

Talk to your pediatrician. My son did this until he was 8, do not put pressure on your son, and do not punish him. His bladder is simply not grown enough yet. Children who sleep very soundly just do not realize and awaken when they have to urinate. He will with age. Our pediatrician told my son that he should not worry about it, and we should not punish him for it. My only request to my son was to tell me when it happened, not to make his bed so I didn't know (I did get annoyed when I had to change his soaked bed at 8pm because he kept it a secret). Other than that, it will get better as he gets older. You can always use "good nights", they will contain the urine pretty well, and good luck, it really does get easier!

You can't, you have no control over this and niether does he. What you can do is learn to live with it, it will pass as he matures. It is important to make him comfortable and secure. It really is embarassing for him too. Have you tried pull ups or the like, at least he would wake up in a dry bed and less laundry and frustration for you.....give it a try!

Is the "once a week" on weekends? I wonder whether it's a change to his routine or something. In that case, all you might need to do is keep him to the routine that keeps him "dry."
There are medications which may help with this; talk to your doctor.
Another workaround is to get a couple of alarm clocks and set them at staggered intervals (one at 2am, one at 5am) and physically locate them so he has to get out of bed to shut them off. RINNNNG/up/do his business/back to sleep.
Good luck and try to be patient and understanding...this is more common than you think and he doesn't like it any more than you do.

I would not let him have anything to drink for about 2 hrs b4 bedtime except for small sips of water . If that doesn't work then I would talk to the Dr about meds . If that isn't an option that you are comfortable with then I would use pull ups .

It could last for years. It isn't his/her fault. Get a mattress protector. They make pull ups for kids of different sizes now. Try not to be too upset. Some kids just have that problem and sometimes it can last until they reach adult hood. I don't think the experts even know why.

Put a dang pull-up on that kid for goodness sake!! It's not abnormal, some kids just can't stay dry at night. It's no big deal and don't make it a big deal. A big deal is a teenager who gets arrested for breaking the law or who steals from you etc etc.

Get them to stop drinking 2 hrs before bed. Only let them drink water/milk/juice.. cut out the soda. Wake them up to use the restroom after about 2 hrs of sleep. have them wear pullups. Tell them that they are 6 yrs old. If they pee the bed, then they have to clean their mess up themselves.
