I will give you the Bible's opinion:

Hebrews 10:24-26 (King James Version)
King James Version (KJV)
Public Domain

"24And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:

25Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

26For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,"

Yes, you should find a good Bible believing church whose members encourage each other to not sin but rather love and do good works as a result of knowng Jesus Christ.

A couple of good churches:

Church serves several functions:

Social time: it turns the religious community into your primary social outlet, particularly if you go EVERY week and then serve on a few committees.

Family time: Most families who attend spend time together at church, but also have other age-similar peers.

Indoctrination: When you're at church, you get your dose of religion for the week. In a non-subtle fashion, there is a conversation via word and song about what God is in your life. And it's scripted, so even if you could generate a contrary idea, there's no place to give it voice.

Safety: You're probably not going to find people who want to kill you in church....unless you give voice to contrary ideas.

It's the perfect set up for keeping people in line. That's one reason that the church promotes weekly devotion. The Catholics have the best scheme. They tell you you'll go to hell if you don't go each week to watch them turn bread and wine into Jesus' body & blood. While you may be able to pray on a hiking trail, unless you're a priest (or with one), you can't witness the voo-doo magic anywhere but in a church.

If going to church service is something you feel you "have" to do instead of something you "want" to do or "look forward" to do then it is not important. In that case you would just be putting in time.

My answer goes with the answer of the person above me. Those people really are not getting anything from the service they attend and if they do indeed call themselves Christians in public they are not living and practicing what the claim.

There is a story about how god comes down one day from heaven. He wants to talk to people and finds only a little girl. He asks where everybody is and the girls tells him they are sitting in church thanking god. God says to the little girl, should they not be outside enjoying the things god gave them, the sunshine the green grass. The little girl says yes but that the grown ups rather go to church and sit in a cold dark room. So god leaves without talking to anybody because they were all in church instead outside in gods nature.

You would have to ask yourself what would be the main reason you go to church. Are you going because you have to or because of your "godly devotion"? (1 Timothy 11:1)

Do not "forsake the gathering of ourselves together, as some have the custom, but encouraging one another..." (Hebrews 10:25) It's not easy to follow the standards that God has given us through the Bible without proper encouragement, so, yes, it is important that we meet together.

As James 2:26 says, "...faith without works is dead."

But does your church really honor God in the way that He asks? Do you feel comfortable where you are? If not, if you have true faith in God, put it into prayer to be somewhere you belong, where God is being shown "exclusive devotion." (Exodus 20:4, 5)

Religion is the practical application of spiritual things in our daily lives.
Associating with positive people. Reading inspirational and motivational
material. Meditating, (quiet time), to relieve stress.
There are many ways to apply onesself.
One minister said he'd rather see a sermon, than hear one any day. There are community organizations where we can set an example, by our
behavior. And then when we win others over, we can appeal to them on a
spiritual level.
Who says you can only go to one church? Variety is the spice of Life!
Just don't lose yourself.

In my opinion, no. I do not believe in organized religion as it is rife with too many gross misrepresentations of the word of God. However, if I found one that was 100%in tune with the Bible then I might go. Church going is supposed to be used to help Christians recharge their souls with the word and allow them to commune with their religious family. I simply do not have any family except Christ and that is all I need at this time.

Not only is it important, it is necessary to put all the Christians into a nasty mood so that after services they can go out to eat and be rude and just plain nasty to all of the waitresses.

Well no it's not a commandment. All you must do is fellowship with other believers. That doesn't necessarily mean at church. Church is a common place for believers to come together so it's a logical place to get that fellowship... Jim

If it is important for football players, pianist, scientist, and all others who strive to be the best they can be...yeah it's important.

In fact, I believe before all other human endeavors, your relationship with Jesus Christ is first.
