Is milk like the highest in calcium and thats why they say to drink it? Me personally, I don't like milk and I find other was to get calcium. But people say to me you still don't have strong bones, you need milk! Do you honestly NEED milk? Or is it just what society tells you?

Plain, fat-free yogurt has more calcium than milk does. So does a grilled cheese sandwich. I think Americans have just been conditioned to believe you're not getting calcium if you aren't drinking milk. Arm yourself with a glass of orange juice and simply say "this has the EXACT same amount of calcium in it that a glass of milk has". You won't be lying!

No worries! Milk isn't the only dairy that's high in calcium. In fact a serving of cheese or yogurt for example both have about the same percentage of your daily recommended amount of calcium. It's about 30%. So even if you don't like milk you can definitely still get plenty of calcium. Now they even have a lot of juices that are calcium fortified so if you like juice that may be a drink for you to try!

Most milk is 35% your daily need for calcium per 8 oz glass. Plus it has vitamin D that helps your body absorb calcium. If you decide not to drink milk, you need to substitute by eating lots of yogurt and soft cheese. Also some brands of OJ have as much calcium as a glass of milk. But, there is nothing like the real thing.

Contrary to how it's advertised, milk and it's products aren't actually the best source of calcium. Milk is a common cause of gastric complaints and it's a common allergen too. A lot of people can't digest it. Milk can cause bowel problems, excema, asthma and loads of other things. Milk has been reported as not being good for human babies as they are more prone to all the above problems as they grow up, and these problems usually only disappear when milk is removed from the diet.

Better sources are leafy greens, tofu and almonds. It's also in mineral water and grains. You can also buy alternative milks which have fortified calcium. You won't be short of calcium if you don't have dairy, I've been allergic for years and I can vouch for that.

Some foods do have calcium, but you should take a calcium pill every day. That way your bones won't break as easily when you fall.
