I was prescribed an antibiotic by my dr., then another dr. prescibed me antibiotics, too, (with knowledge of me being already on another antibiotic)but for a different reason. they are 2 different antibiotics...will they still work? I have to take them both b/c I have another surgery next week, but I am not sure if they will work together...

My PCP (primary care physician) prescribed me antibiotics for an infection. I had surgery yesterday & was given another antibiotic by my surgeon. The surgeon was well aware of the other antibiotic I was on...So in this case, I had to see another doctor (for surgery). and i have another surgery next friday...they want to make sure I don't have an infection because I am pregnant & having surgery on my chest.

They should work together just fine. I work for a surgeon and he frequently prescribes two antibiotics together before a big surgery. However without knowing which they are from your question the best thing to do is call your pharmacist and double check.

I think it depends on what are the two kinds of antibiotics that you're taking and if interference exists between the two antibiotics. Your best bet is to probably ask a pharmacist at a pharmacy (Walgreens, Safeway, Fred Meyer, etc.)
I personally have had to take two kinds of antibiotics at the same time before (one for my severe acne and one to prevent infections from the extraction of my wisdom teeth). It didn't cause any complication for me and both were working fine.
Your "other doctor" probably took into careful consideration about the interaction of the two antibiotics, if your "other doctor" prescribed you the "other antibiotic" with the awareness that you're also taking an antibiotic other than the one he/she prescribed. However, it's always good to double check with your doctor(s) when he/she/they prescribe you any new medication. Doctors are still humans and they can make mistakes. Some mistakes won't cause any problems, some might cause a little problem, and some can cause big problems.
I worked in the pharmacy at the hospital and I've seen many patients were taking more than one kind of antibiotics. So, I'm quite sure taking more than one kind of antibiotics shouldn't cause a problem, but it probably depends "which" antibiotic with "which" antibiotics.
Hope that helps. Sorry it's a bit wordy. Good luck

In Fact there are antibiotics that are compatible. The most important thing is your other doctor was aware that you were already taking some. Thier job is to know the medicines and interactions with one another or to research it if they dont know off the top of thier heads. However there is always room for error because different peoples bodies react differently to antibiotics and you should inform your doctor of any changes such as rashes, fevors or anything out of the ordinary. Asking questions to your doctor is of utmost importance and keeping them informed of changes. The more both of you know the better medicine is practiced.

Antibiotics are different and in different classes. It's difficult to OD on antibiotics. Yes, I would take both of them. Follow the label's directions. Some antibiotics can not be taken with milk. Some have to be taken on an empty stomach. They maybe both Antibiotics, but each is used to treat different problems. Don't take them at the same time.

call youre dr. to be sure. In some cases you might get a bad reaction to one of them. Better to be safe than sorry. Good luck with youre surgery.

Ask a pharmacist. Drugs often interact - you need to know this immediately, so you might want to call a place that has a pharmacist on duty 24 hours a day. Good luck.

Hey Young Lady!
First I Must admire your beauty.
I advise you that never go to another Dr when you are under treatment of one Dr.
If at all you face some other disease you must consult the same Dr.
Otherwise you may land in some trouble.
So in this case, you must consult the previous one for getting treatment.
Best of Luck.......
Take care of your beauty..............
