Sounds like he's just cautious about relationships. That's not always a bad thing either. Could be he's been hurt in the past and just wants to take things slow. I'd hang with him, talk just like you always have and give it a month or two. Go ahead and do a gift exchange and just let him be himself. If someone else comes along in the mean time and asks you out, don't be afraid to go out on a date. After all, guys aren't the only ones who can be players. Just don't commit to a relationship with someone else right now if you like this other guy that much.
Don't set yourself up to be hurt since he may just be looking for a good pal right now. Most guys don't leave lines to be read between. They think women are difficult to understand, but if they only knew what they put us through!
Good luck - hope he gets you something nice.

Several things could be the reason for the odd behaviour. He either doesn't like you like that and just wants to be friends, he is shy and doesn't know how to respond, or he is gay.
If he just sees you as a friend then you should forget about him romantically, perhaps in the future he would fall for you, just concentrate on building your friendship.
If he is shy, try to find out if he really likes you for sure, if he does let him know that you are interested and would like to date him and that you can go slow. He said its "up in the air", which probably means that he is trying to choose between you and another chick.
If he's gay, then congrats! you got a gay friend that can help you with shopping, make up, gossip or whatever the hell gay guy friends do.
Good luck

First of all,I think you should decide whether you are ready to lose him as a friend if you cannot win him as a boyfriend. After telling him your feelings nothing would be the same again. So what about cooling down a little bit and waiting to judge his feelings better? In this way,you would avoid a scene and maybe he would open up to you eventually?

So you care what his friend thinks about him?? You will never know that his friend is a hypocrite. I suggest you talk to him more to know what he is like before coming to a conclusion. Sometimes, the guy is shy and thats why he is acting wierd around you.

i think you can do it both...still like him at the same time get over it...like him as a friend...get over about it in dating someone else..by datind you can meet diffrent people..you can find a friend or more than that and you can also compare what you felt about this guy if you really like him..at the same time..you well be able to know if he likes you..if he gets jelly or not..i mean jealous..

he sounds immature....like a friend of mine who is pretty much into himself and sometimes i think he's not capable of getting into a girl on a deep level.
after you made it known u liked him, best that you back off and let him show some actual interest.......if he doesn't then take it that he's not that into you.
