Indeed there is! There is a gland in the forehead that doctors have little
understanding of, called the pineal gland. It works with the minds eye,
or 3rd eye. Like we see pictures in our mind.
Smoking clogs the pineal gland, blocking our spiritual "sight". Both
the forces of Good and Bad want us to have this sight. One to give
us visions of Peace. The other to give us visions of Fear!

No. The spiritual community may join in and support it but is not the push behind the crackdown. Smoking causes health problems. In a society, one groups problems is the problem of the whole society, everything is linked in a system. The health issues caused by smoking tend to drive up insurance costs for all whether a person smokes or not...more so for smokers of course. It also fills our hospitals with people needing treatment for their ills from smoking related causes thus stressing the available bed spaces needed for other illness. These are just a couple of examples.

No the crackdown is because people who don't smoke shouldn't be subjected to it. The crackdown is because of education on the dangers of second hand smoke for the rest of us. The crackdown is becaues in public places is it fair for non smokers to be sugbected to cancer causing agents? And what about all the people with breathing problems, ashthma etc.. Should they have to stay home because the smell of smoke doesn't stay in the area designated for smokers. And what about the true cost of somoking that effects us all. Is it fair for non smokers to pay higher health insurance premiums and medical expenses as well as taxes as those suffering from smoke related illnesses put a financial drain on us all???? As well as those who become ill and then are paid for the disability they caused through smoking???
Religion is not the reason...

Thats one big problem. Smoking is also addictive, big tobacco companies are targetting the very young, the uneducated, the not too brights in order to keep their sales up and compensate the fact that many educated and clever people are quitting.
One of the reason of the crackdown is for the protection of the weak.

I guess you could go as far as to say "the body is the temple of the Holy Hpirit"....but that would be "reaching".

Actually I honestly believe that the new "heath craze" that's going around (i.e., smoking, no 'trans fats' in NYC restaurants) is just a new form of "religion". A very secular/humanist "religion" - but - a religion all the same.

And a false one at that. This body WILL die. Of that, there can be no doubt.

I know that the Mormon Church has a very strong stance against the use of Tobacco. But for the most part I think that the reasons would be political.

It kills the temple of God?!

My mother died from lung cancer caused by smoking WAY to early.

I regret tremendously her decision to participate in an activity that shorten her time with me and her grandchildren. I wish she would have known the dangers. She loved her children and life in general. God bless her.

Probably not, but smoking tobacco causes emphysema - there is no longer any doubt whatsoever about that.
