Is it necessary to lose weight to gain a flat stomach?
It is commonly said that if you want to get a flat stomach, you need to combine aerobic exercise, toning exercises and a good diet. However, people always say that you need to lose weight so that the muscles can be SEEN. Does this mean that without weight loss I can't get a flat stomach? I'm asking because I'm already very slim but I have a flabby middle.

People carry fat in different areas. This can allow you to be generally slim, but still carry fat over you abs.

As far as lossing weight for them to be flat, lets be more specific. You will need to loss fat (not nessesarily reduce your current weight).

Yes a combination of improved nutrition and exercise (icluding strength training and cardio) will help you achieve this. This is assuming you are talking about fat not excess skin.

Even so, we cannot determine where we will loss fat, so you may notice another area slimming before your tummy.

Just be patient and stick with it.

for most people, they'll need to lose extra weight to reveal the tone, lean muscle below the fat. but you will need to combine that with exercise to make the area tight and flat, which means a lot of repetitive crunches and abdominal movements. you can't have ripped muscles if a layer of fat is covering them, so its only natural that you need to lose weight to do so. in your case, if you are slim the key would be to eat a healthy, low-carb diet to prevent any extra water weight and bloating, combined with abdominal movements to make the area strong.

Wish I knew. There are a slew of "infomercials" on American television selling various exercise equipment which are all intended to somehow get your abs to be perfect. It's unclear what to do. Britney Spears used to do 1,000 sit-ups per day, she claimed, to keep her midriff exposable. Perhaps you could try that...?
