Every step I walk up both my knees click, it's quite loud and even has woken my daughter before. My knees don't hurt normally but if I run upstairs they feel weak and hurt, what could be the problem? Is it serious enough to see a doctor?

I am a qualified personal trainer, so please take my advice into consideration! Well, my knees click too some times, and it is only because of ONE THING:

1. My muscles are too tight, which therefore pull on my tendons/ligaments , which therefore pull on the knee cap, causing the release of I believe nitrogen gas air pockets to be released between your joints which causes the loud CRACK/click!

SOOO..... My friend, what I do is, I stretch my leg muscles really safely and really thoroughly and CAREFULLY! After doing this on a daily basis, see how your knees feel, and sound. They will, I guarantee, be less painful, and less loud, (if they click or crack at all)

ALSO, see your doctor for advice anyway, it can only help!
(P.S. I take 'glucosamine' and 'chondroitin' which is great for joint freedom of movement and strength)

Its probably nothing to worry about, but a trip to the doctors just to check it out. I think you have dry joints. If you run upstairs normally they would feel weak and hurt if you were not used to doing this regularly.

occasional clicking is entirely normal, and is usually caused by soft tissue passing over bone, or the surface of two bones moving over one another. it's just normal normal wear and tear and occurs as we get older and continue to use our joints. but if your knees hurt, it might be something more serious. if you find that your knees swell up after alot of physical activity, then you've probably suffered a cartilage injury. but other than that i'm not sure what it could be. if i were you i would see the doctor. it might not heal itself and i would hate for it to get worse if it could have been prevented.

I am an alternative medicinal therapist and i can you that your clicking is caused by the lack of SINOVIAL fluid and may be the first sign of arthritis. i suggest you see a doctor for x rays or a scan

Joints in general crack, because of air being compressed. It's not unhealthy I don't think, but if it hurts of course see a doctor.

Ive had this for years and i used to be on prescription drugs for pain relief.

i went to a psychic surgeon and now they are OK no more medicine.

i also have had hypnotherapy for pain control.

do not dismiss alternative medicine, some say its in your head so what if it is i don't take drugs and they don't hurt any more.

maybe its not in my head and this does work

perhaps you may have mild athritis, a knee brace can fix this quickly and easily, you just slip it on ur knee and it holds the disc in place to support it. Your local chemist should have one they a fairly cheap
