it is a pity (a sin?) to live life as a big long test rather than enjoying it to the full. If this foolish God exists, and it is GOOD, then it would want us to immerse ourself in life, love one another, forgive our enemies, etc, rather than going round blessing HumVees and scimitars. This life is both heaven and hell and it is down to us which it becomes. (discuss)

Thanks for your answers. Nothing from the Muslims...hmm. As you are free to believe, I am free not to. Science is objective - based on facts. Belief systems are subjective, and your belief should not impact on me - in the same way I would not want to force anybody to renounce beliefs. When, however, your beliefs impact on my life, I have a right to protest. Spirituality and belief, fine. Organised religion linked to politics, bad. (looks simple, huh?). And for the 'enjoy hell, sodomite' chap, I wish him all the best and love him with all my heart.

6 This parable spake Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things they were which he spake unto them.

7 Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.

8 All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.

9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

No, generally, it is more like a long preparation rather than a test. Life should be lived to the full during this time, no matter what the situation, but you have to have life to know that. I am sure you can see the logic in putting a boat to the test before you sail it around the world for the first time, nothing wrong with a few tests either!!
However, I do know where you are coming from, and, from there, you do have a point.

Em, from a christian point of view, we DO seek to forgive others, love one another. Blessing of Humvees and scimitars sounds like a stupid political play on religion. The two are not connected, Government directs the body. Religion directs the soul.

About everything being a test. I think its moreof a credit where credit's due- in this case, the Big Man. A little bit of respect cant hurt, and I'm sure it would be downright offensive to deny His existence.

I'm not overly religious, and dont go to church every sunday like I should, but I'm respectful and very much afraid of God.

Hi Daniel, your question presupposes that you cannot enjoy life by being faithful to God and the Gospel of Christ, and this is not the case, as a Catholic I really enjoy my life and am not a prude or a killjoy, but what I do know is that deliberate denial of the revealed law of God does bring inner turmoil and dis-satisfaction sooner or later.
It is a proven fact that the imminent demise of a culture is brought about by the decline of morality in that culture.
There is nothing wrong with enjoying life and God does want us to be happy, but we have to curtail our recklessness in some areas like sex or we pay the price.

You will never get believers to agree with you. But I do - I am an atheist.

The belief thing is indeed mankind's most persistent delusion, (like Tim Henman's genius ;-) )
To me, it is not good enough to have people still believing that faith is a good basis for making other people miserable. It is up to non-believers to show others that the need for god has passed, and mankind will be better for it.

I believe in heaven and hell, and I have never blessed a HumVee.
I wish you could tell me why God is foolish.
I believe that those who reject God are foolish.

In the OT God created man, Adam, and man defied His law.
As more and more ignored Him and did wickedly, He brought a flood.

After the flood, He chose a particular man, Abraham, to be the beginning of His people.
He spent much time trying to push His people to live a righteous life. It proved to be futile.
So He decided it was time to bring into this world a super sacrifice for their sin.
If His people could not be encouraged to live according to the law, He would have to make a sacrifice for them that could absolve them of all their sin and rebellion.
So the God of the OT was a God of correction.

That takes us to the NT where God sent into this world His only Son to be a sacrifice for His people.
However His people rejected Him and God opened His arms to those who were not His people.
Having made a sacrifice for their sins, he placed only one requirement upon the world.
If they were to have eternal life in heaven with Him, they would have to believe in Him and in His Son who was the sacrifice for all sin.

I enjoy my life, because I live my life doing what I can to share with others the joy that is in my life from having a relationship with God and His Son.

I agree it makes no sense. I work in mental health and have seen religion ruin many lives. Why would anyone want this?
