So and your point of this question?

Not everyone follows Christmas....
If you want to celebrate it, do it at home without family.

By what you have said, that's something strange :S

And about Dubai, how did you hear of them putting a tree up, and where?

Muslims are against Christmas, because they don't believe that Jesus was born/died on that day, and the Christians are making stories up about him, and lies. Thats probably why. They don't like it when others lie, and make up stories and what not about their Prophets, especially Muhammad, after that Jesus.

And about, what is this world coming to? As my friend Poki has said, it's coming to an end.... when? That's what we don't know, but will find out....

I don't think a Christmas tree should be considered as offensive to other religions. I mean it isn't even really a religious symbol, if it was a big crucifix this might be something else. But when I was in Egypt (90 % Muslims, 10 % Christians) I saw crucifixes and other clearly religious Christian symbols (like the picture of Mary) in public. I even know a Muslim girl who put a small Christmas tree in her room just because she thought that was pretty. I think something is wrong with these Muslims in your town.

I think this Muslim thing has gone too far. I am English & I have lived in Turkey for many years. There was an article in our papers here, cutting a long sory short a Germam Christian came to Turkey, he asked the local Mufti if he could prey in his Mosque & he would be dressed as Santa Clause. the Mufti gave the man permission with his blessings saying we all prey to the same God. Each year here in Tukey the Turkish people get more into xmas, well why not, St Nicholas was born in Turkey in the early 4th century. If all relijous men had the same tolerance of this Turkish Mufti then im shure we would all get on far better. After the Geman man finished praying in the Mosque he gave out sweets & small gifts to children on the street & a local hospital. Well done to the German & the Mufti

Strange. We live in Pakistan, and when invited, we go to Christmas celebrations - i.e. the lunches or tea. This is the first time I heard this kind of thing. Utterly dismissable.

P.S. Oh dear, the Guardian story is absurd! What is this person thinking!? Rest assured this doesn't happen anywhere else. Dubai is an example.

P.P.S. But of course, Muslims consider Jesus Peace be upon him as a messenger, and believe in his miraculous birth. But December 25th is a pagan holiday adapted....? There is no religious importance of this festival to Muslims, but it may be and is celebrated as a holiday of the Christian community members.

Did you actually hear any Muslims complaining or is this what it said in the paper or on the news?
We have no problems like this in my home town, infact my Muslim neighbours have just put some Christmas decorations in their window.

Also, 4 years ago I lived in Lanzarote, our friends little girl loved our Christmas tree she had never seen one and was mesmerised (she was 4). They asked what we would do with it after Christmas and asked if they could have it. Sure enough they put it up in their house for a month or so. They are Muslim!

Different cultures have different ways to express believes and thoughts, muslims are commanded to respect other people's believes unless they offend the whole society, western culture respects other peorlp's beleives unless they offend the community, nearly the same, exceptions are present everywhere, fanatic people are here and ther, so it might not be a common tradition in eastern countries, for example in germany muslims were prohibited to kill their sacrifies using a knife, but recently the court alllowed them to do, in egypt, the official authorities (muslims) share in christmas festival with christinas, even public people do it, so we will find different people as exceptions in all societies, all cultures, all traditions

I am Muslim and you put up your Christmas tree. We all have to live together and respect one another. I cant see why such a fuss was made. Our Islamic community volunteers dish out food for the poor on Christmas and Thanksgiving day side by side with non-Muslims. Its a brotherly spirit thing to do. We invite Jewish and Christian to our Eid (Holiday) parties. What they are doing is not what our Prophet (Peace be Upon Him) has Taught us as God's Will.

Despite my right wing leanings, I must say that it probably wasn't Muslims who asked for the tree to be taken down but hand-wringing Leftie liberals who wrongly thought that Muslims might ask it to be removed. It's these Guardianistas who, in thinking they are doing good, are actually causing rifts. I dare say the majority of Muslims are quite ambivilant to the siting of a fancy tree for a few weeks.

i know. imagine businesses not putting up christmas decorations because they are scared of offending their employees who are not christians. wow, how boring the world is turning into. it's ridiculous! we should all be allowed to celebrate our various festivals. i mean it's not like we don't see eid mubarek everywhere when Ramadan ends and it's not such a big deal so y do christmas decorations have to be such a great deal. it's true we have to respect other people's views but it's not like we force these people to become christians. if they want to join us in the celebration fine, if they don't fine, they don't have to.

reference jackie j, you have no idea do you really.
i think what we have to ask ourselves is who are we really offending?
one of the biggest websites on the planet is www.paki.com, its huge so it is. my point is i know of a white couple who are totally offended by that word, why you mite ask because those Asian people aren't that's for sure. back to Christmas, every Muslim i know and that's not many are not offended by Christmas or by its commercialism. its all a bunch of croc. the people who make up those stupid politically correct antics ought to be slapped a few times to let common sense permeate their brain.
