My daughter has had two very loose stools this morning. For dinner last night, she ate what we ate, which was a vegetarian rice dish that my husband has made for us before. She ate alittle more than usual, but not much. She is in GREAT spirits, no temperature, silly and cute as ever. She does, however, have a red rash in her diaper area. I gave her allergy meds, just in case it is an allergic reaction to something and put a calming balm on the rash in case it's from the poop that was in her diaper this morning since who knows when. At what point do we give her pedialyte or snother electrolyte solution? Am I over-reacting? Thanks!!!

Thanks everyone! I've called the pediatrician to be sure. It's Saturday morning so I'm waiting for a callback. Closest answer to his gets the 10 points! Thanks again!

There is never really a quick fix when it comes to your child being sick. Aveno diaper rash or Aquaphor by Eucerin if I spelled it correctly for your baby's bottom. Put tons of this on her bottom because the bacteria from the bowels can make the rash worse. I would also suggest the BRAT diet as well, and regular spring water for hydration and or pedialyte.

Maybe the rice dish was a little too rich for her stomach. I would go ahead and start her on the pedialyte right now. Also try some macaroni and cheese and a banana and also make sure she drinks fluids but stay away from juices right now. Milk, water and maybe a little clear soda. Good Luck and I am sure she will be fine. Never think you are over-reacting. It is always better to be safe than sorry. It shows you are a good parent because you pay attention and worry about things at the onset.

If it is only a few times & she seems to be ok, then monitor it, Keep her hydrated, even if not with Pedilyte, with juice, water, etc. The rash, the balm is great, or if she appears to be uncomfortable as a result of the rash, then try a luke warm bath no soap, oatmeal sooting bath if you have it, and that will help. Your biggest concern with this is just becoming dehydrated, so as long as ther is no temp and she is eating and drinking she will fight off whatver is troubling her belly.

The vegetarian rice dish probably was too spicy for her and she has loose stools. Also a diaper rash. Give clear liquids until stools firm, and meat is definitely indicated for essential amino acids and iron.

No, you're not overreacting! It sucks when you child is sick. I always give my kids the B.R.A.T. diet when they have diarrhea. the diet consists of bananas, rice, applesauce and toast. My mom told me about this when my now 51/2 year old was a baby. I wouldn't give Pedialyte unless the child isn't eating or drinking anything else. But ultimately I would call your pediatrician just to be sure. Good luck with your sweetie.

Never give fruit juice or sports drinks, sugars cause diarhia to worsen. Go to walgreens or walmart, or a nearbye grocery store and pick up about 2 bottle of Pedialite. I promise it will help keep your child hydrated and help slow down the diarhia. Im going through the same thing with my 16 month old.

1 table spoon of sugar
1 pinch of salt
1 litter of water
should do the trick, but thats made for ages 8 and up.
I suggest cutting the ingradients in half, or use 2/3s of it.
