Have you seen those hover disks at your local walmart or toy store? It's like a big frisbee! Seems like all the kids love those and since it's an outdoor toy, he'll be outside with it which most sports kids love the outdoors. I'm not going to say a ball of any sort most people will say that. Or a scooter!

I would say something to do with soccer or maybe T ball. At 4 running and kicking would be a good one. And possibly the T ball.
He would be too small for basket ball and I'm not sure about the little football teams.

How about a personalized sports book? Kids love to hear their name in the storyline. Go to this website http://www.tlc-expressions.com They have a few sports titles, and I think you can even incorporate their favorite team and player into a couple of them. They're very cool... MY SIS GOT MY 4YR OLD A BASEBALL BAG PUT A GLOVE, BALL, BAT ,AND THAT WAS GREAT HE LOVED IT AND IT IS NOT THAT MUCH PLUS HE CAN KEEP IT ALL IN THE SAME STOP AND READY FOR T-BALL BUT ANY THING Y GET HE WILL LIKE IF Y CAN'T FIND ANY THING GIVE A GIFT CARE OR TAKE HE TO THE STORE

buy some goal posts (mini ones) and a football, and put them in the garden, he will have alot of fun with you ( I am talking about soccer ball, not american football)
