Ive heard that in the USA it is considered something totally unacceptable to cheat at school during test. Someone told me it is as bad as shoplifting. Is it true? Have you ever cheated? I did MANY times and my schoolmates too and some of our teachers say "you may cheat as long as i dont notice it" :-)

It may be as bad morally as shoplifting, but it is not a crime as shoplifting is. However, cheating, by defination, is forbidden. Cheating is to be dishonest with regard to one's academic performance, ability, and knowledge. It is also a form of special-pleading in that cheaters think that they are somehow unique in that while everyone else must follows the rules, the cheater is so special that they need not follow the rules if they so desire.

In American institutions of higher learning, serious repercussions result from being caught at cheating. The consequences can range from receiving an F in the class to absolute expulsion from the learning institution (which is noted on your transcripts, thereby sullying one's academic record forever).

I have caught my students cheating, and they immediately receive a grade of "F" in the course and I recommend disciplinary action from the college Provost.

When a teacher tells you, "You can cheat as long as I don't notice it", they are being tonge-in-cheek about it; that is, they are only joking with you. If they really allowed cheating, there would be no need to "hide' that one were doing it--they would simply allow everyone to get the answers, but that is an absurd notion. You can only have cheating when it is forbidden. Once deception in academic performance is allowed, then the notion of cheating has lost all meaning.

If you do have a teacher who allows cheating, then that teacher is unscupulous--it is unfair to those who do not cheat and it is unfar to the cheater-- and has undermined the entire process of learning.

If you have cheated, you have proven to be both deceitful and selfish, as well as neglectful of your intellectual responsibilities. You arn't doing yourself or anyone else any favors by cheating.

Cheating is totally unacceptable. When you cheat, you cheat yourself by pretending you know an answer and you don't. You obviously didn't study, and the question is, are you learning?

Cheating is also very unethical and morally wrong. Christian's as well as other religions view cheating as a sin. I would think your conscious would bother you if you were raised half way decently.

Morally, it is as bad as stealing in some minds. Some schools in the US have an honor code that you will not cheat. If you are ever caught, you are expelled. That is a heavy penalty to live with if you want to get ahead in life. Eventually, you will be caught!

Cheating is not cool for several reasons...

You need to learn the material, you might just need it later in life.

What if the person you cheat from knows less that you do about the subject.
if you cheat in math, will you need to know material A to understand material B...

... and yes I have cheated one time in school. I needed an A to pass the course. I studied and studied, but was not confident in myself so I cheated. I got the highest score in my class and the teacher wanted to know how I went from a D to and A on my test.

She assumed I was cheating and asked me a question from the chapter that was not on the test! It was a good thing that I really did study for the test as I got the answer right!

Study hard, do your homework, ask questions in class and you wont have to cheat!

Good luck in school.

Yeah cheating is right up there with other mortal sins. There are going to be other things in life as you get older that will require that extra little bit of an edge but school work aint one of them and infact you usually will work harder at cheating than you would have had you studdied in the first place

You only cheat yourself. Are you going to school to learn or just to waste money? I hope you're not becoming a Dr., 'cause I'd hate to have to be operated on by someone too stupid to read and study, and who actually got an education and a degree without knowing a single thing about what they're doing.
