Upper back as in below the neck, this is your cervical spine the 1st through the seventh vertebrae. from the center up.
There could be a bulging disc, a slipped disc or a pinched nerve, it could be a compressed disc, or a spur creating and irritating a disc. It could be any combination of these.

The only answer I can think of is to see your doctor and get his opinion. Of course if it's any of these it's not going to get better no matter what you do, and in fact it will get worse.
He will want to run a series of MRI's or CAT's scans on you to see what the problem is. You can get a better chair like suggested, and keep moving, that's one answer but, it won't go away.

Seems you are having problem with sitting posture.Bring a good chair which is orthotically fit.Also you have to take right amount of calcium per day.
