What the heck does this mean? I am American and was watching a British show recently where they used this term. Is it like a lawn sale in your trunk?

Actually, Moorglad, Solar is right. We call them Flea Markets here in the states. If we're lucky, we come home with goodies, but no fleas.

I'm a yank too! I spent a long time in UK on business and wondered. It's like an outdoor flea market where you just pull up to this grassy area and sell your odds and ends out of the back or your car boot, or trunk.

You probably call them 'garage sales' in the U.S.A.
It's where a group of people gather to sell unwanted items. Usually in a car park. Where everyone who has brought stuff carry the goods in the boot(trunk) of their car...Car boot salles!
In America, i guess the equivilant would be automobile trunk sales!

A car boot sale is similar to a garage/yard sale, but they are in a large parking lor or open space.

Yeah sort of!
You go to the venue with your car and off load your goodies and start selling usually from a table near your car.

I am British married to a US citizen.

Car Boot Sale = equivalent of your Swap Meets.

Hope that explains. :)
