I think that'd be an fair, bipartisan assessment of the situation.

Even the President admitted this fact.

NO I have no recollection of ever being told I would be greeted as a Liberator, nevermind the candy and flowers bit. We are winning over the hearts and minds. We have rebuilt schools, towns, houses, public utilities, etc... Not all of the Iraqi people want to see us there, This is true but most do. They are the silent majority. The fact that some don't want us there and they are drawing most of the media attention should not detour us from our mission. We will prevail. Unfortunately there will be more deaths before that happens. All of you who sit at home and watch the evening news and form your conclusions have no clue what the US Military is doing in Iraq. Are we handling all of our missions in a clear concise manner ?? Nope !! Why not ?? Because the US Military is still lead by civilian leadership who have no clue.

Key note though is that the War in IRAQ went exactly as the US Figured it would. THe US Military crushed the Iraqi military. What the US is now in is a Peacekeeping / Re-construction mode.

I will agree with you on this fact. The war was a complete success, but the peace has been rocky at best. Even Mr. Bush has admitted publicly. In a speech the other day he said that this has not gone as he expected. The fact that most of us were born into western society it is our belief that everyone will just accept democracy when it is offered. However, often we fail to account for cultural anomalies experienced by people who have never been free and thus do not know how to be free. However, the statements of many that Iraq will never be free because the people won't accept it is elitist and basically an attempt to deny others that which we cherish most in western society. In the end I do believe Iraq will have peace and a sound democracy. This democracy probably will not resemble western democracy, but if the people are free and in control of their own destinies then the ultimate goal will have been achieved.

If the US dealt with Iraq in exactly the same way the Allies dealt with Nazi Germany in World War 2 the problem would be over, done and finished in two weeks. The problem is we are trying to fight what has been called a "war" more like a good-will company picnic. Carpet bomb the cities, flatten all the mosques, kill off as many civilians as you can and in short order the survivors will be screaming for peace.

Apart from that, the war was launched by George Bush on totally false pretexts. The whole "weapons of mass destruction" thing was a ruse, and did not refer to any threat to America but rather to the Scud missile threat to Israel, which was very real. Notice how after the Iraq invasion very little mention was made of the elimination of Scud missiles, because if too much attention was paid to the real reason for going into Iraq, namely to provide for Israeli security, there would have been a huge uproar from the American public.

It depends on where you are in Iraq. The Kurds are very appreciative that we kicked Saddam out, because he persecuted them. Certain sections of certain towns like the Americans because they keep the sectarian death squads out. However, I agree with your statement - it has not gone as well as we were told it would. Its weird now though - the Iraqis want us to leave, but not yet because of the fear of the sectarian chaos that will be even worse if we leave. Its a mess.

ohhhhh lets not go there. As a person who was in high school in Desert Storm and seeing friends go over and seeing the Clinton to Bush handing ... So many things are so not how they should be...in so many ways. It is not that I am unpatriotic, because I am not, but I am so detesting Politic right now.

No matter what anyone says, it's one thing to get into a war it's another thing entirly to be able to predict how it will go. War takes on a life of it's own, and you have to contently adapt.

We were told a pack of lies.
But the war has gone as expected. Before the start of the war several prominent people were shouting this will be another vietnam.
And it is.

Hindsight is always 20/20. Instead of picking at the policies, do you have any solutions for where to go from here?
