Trichomoniasis is an STD. It is also called ping-pong disease (give and take). Trichomoniasis is infection of the vagina or male genital tract with Trichomonas vaginalis. It can be asymptomatic or produce urethritis, vaginitis, or occasionally cystitis, epididymitis, or prostatitis. Diagnosis is by microscopic examination of vaginal or prostatic secretions or by urethral culture. Patients and sexual contacts are treated with metronidazole.
Your girl friend might have been infected by penis-vagina contact from her own partner who has no symptoms (asymptomatic).
Please see the web pages for more details on Trichomoniasis.

Women can get that without sexual contact. It is a common vaginal infection, and is not necessarily an STD.
