Coz it was she-elephant and there were rowdy boys in the bus so she decided to go for hitch hiking.

Because the other elephant wanted to make sure that they were boarding the correct bus. He can only know it is, when the elephant who boarded the bus would write him a letter telling him he has arrived in Trichy safe and sound.
