If Scotland were invaded, then the UK would be at war simple! in that case the UK would NUKE the offending country or countries from missiles bases in Scotland and from Bombers based in scotland and would launch cruise missles from subs around the world, oh and another thing the english did not beat scotland out of indipendance, in the 17 century Scotland launched their bid to become a world power, basically by coming up with the idea of the panama canal 300 years before anyone else had thought of it. All Scotlands wealth went into this project which if it came about would make scotland the richest nation on earth because they would control the trade routes to the east. However when the settelers got there (in their hundreds)they had to contend with the worst condidtions imaginable even the indian populations did not live there for fear of disease and starvation.

Hundreds died but hundreds more came only to be attacked by spanish forces whom they repulsed again and again. The King of Great Britain was William of Orange(I could be wrong) who was king of england and scotland but the two nations were independand, anyway William decided not to sent any help to the scots even using naval blockades on ships from Jamacia which was sending wepons to the scots( which they had payed for in blood and Gold) the end result of this was that Scotland was utterly bankrupt and when an offer came from england to unite the parliments for hard cash the scottish nobles accepted and the parliments were united and the United Kingdom was Born.

Incidently in the years that followed the Scots played a role that was out of all perportion to to the size of the country in building the British empire and as a result became the richest single nation on earth in the mid 19th Century, Scottish soldiers saliors scholars prechers business men doctors basically layed the paving slabs of the modern world.

cheers

It depends on who invades. If it people from a hot nation then I would do what the Russians did when Napoleon invaded - wait for winter to kill them.
If it is the French who invade this is what to do. The French military relies upon one building to run - without it their entire war policy falls to pieces. This is not a barracks, a government bunker or a secret base. It is their white flag factory - the French rely upon this in every war.

Invasion by land would prove difficult as England is defended by the old men with sticks like in Dad's Army. These guys are a lot tougher than they look and will fight to the death every time. So a land invasion would never reach Scotland without going through half a million English grandads (and more terrifying still a million grannys!).

So I would recommend Scotland moves all it's crops and herds 1 mile away from the coast. Build bastions around the ports to defend them. And trains the baboons in it's zoos to act as a crack commando unit. Baboons rock.
Also training up some hard as nails generals like MacColla and the Marquis of Montrose (who both fought in the English Civil War on the side of the King) could not hurt either. We know that the Royalists lost the war but these guys were still hard as nails.

(Hey Rev prometeus, the Poms did succeed. Thats why Scotland isnt independant you idiot)

Scotland's main asset in a war has been its landscape. Hills, Mountains and often fierce winters has meant that for many invaders the Scots have been historically able to wear them down over time and then amass and strike before dissipating again. Of course, how this would rel,ate to modern warfare I'm uncertain.

What I can tell you is that an invasion of Scotland would constitute an invasion of the UK and so you'd have all of the UK's forces involved.Plus probably many of our NATO allies (although after the Falklands Im doubtful as to whether the US would help despite us being the only country still publicly with them in Iraq)

'RandomlyP try getting the facts from Yahoo Search or Google before you talk any more inaccurate rubbish. Scotland and England united politically in 1707 following the Union of the Crown in 1603.
The Scots don't have to be independent as their running the country (badly) as I read every week on Answers!

Scotland would defend itself just like the U.S. In conventional war you would have to rely on intelligence. This would let you know when the attack would happen and where it would come from. If the attack date was known and the attack method was known then scotland would bulk its forces in that area.

If by land. The scots would have to bulk up ground forces near the border. These forces should not be too noticable though because you want the attack to happen as planned. All war is still faught with the same principals as any other. You put an air volley up first before the enemy forces get too close. Then you attack with your ground forces. The largest group from the front. This will allow you to flank from the other two sides. Try to surround the enemy and win.

If by air. You would have to match the fight with air forces. They would try to get this fight out over and surface to air missle sites would be able to deploy their salvos. If necessary try to lead the enemy aircraft over the sea and attack them with aircraft and ships.

If by sea. Set up a blockade with ships. Hope that this holds if not then you are going back to a ground fight.

All in all these methods would be used in conjunction with each other.

there is no way scots would be invaded and have to stand alone
the english and the welsh would not accept it and would come running to repell all boarders.Dont let the angloscots rivalry and banter fool you, some passions dont surface untill they are called by fate.

If Scotland were invaded, I would be up there with my carving knife strapped to a broomhandle to give them a hand to fight of the invader.

The best form of defence is attack, as Scotland has Trident
they should nuke everyone else first.
