The US military is winning. It would have been over with alot sooner, if the Politicians would stay out of it. We are restricted on what we can do and can't do. Our first priority is to protect the Iraqi people. But how can you do that when the insurgents are using them as human shields and bomb carriers. Besides most of the insurgents are from other countries and not Iraqis..

This question is way too vague. The definition of victory needs to be much more clearly defined.
If you are talking about winning battles or firefights - the US army is winning
If you are talking about bodycount - the US army is winning
If you are talking about some other type of victory - like no more violence in Iraq, that no longer becomes a simple military question but involves political strategies and a number of other factors.

Basically we won! We destroyed formal army and now we are in a pissing contest with guerrillas.
As an interesting note the middle east has been in constant turmoil for thousands of years and no army, no matter how great, has been able to discernibly conquer the middle east. Russia has tried, the UN council, the mongols and probably even Gandhi but the resistance remains virulent. Now its the US's turn to play bully in the foreign lands.

In an insurgency it was calculated that it would take 10 regular soldiers to each insurgent, during the Vietnam war.

Because the insurgents dress up like civilians so we don't know who's the enemy. When we kill somebody that we mistook for an insurgent it's all over the news making America always look like the bad guy

It don't matter how great your weapons are when you have places like Iran sending in insurgents to screw things up. It's more complicated than just weapons....

i been waiting for this one here goes! when we ceased offensive operations (thanks GW) and the declaration that the war had been won, couldnt have been further from the truth. now and since then we get hit by ied's, vbied's, mortars, rpg's and suicide bombers. the insurgency is unconventionally picking us off, theres no war, we're just reactionary targets, ROE (rules of engagement) give them fist hit allways! so when we give them first hit.......... they take it
