Sip a teaspoon of vinegar, especially black ones extracted from sugar cane. Tablets for tonsillitis in candy form will help.

I know that because you're pregnant you can't do the whole regimen that I do when I get that every four or five years, but maybe some of the things you can do.....

Lots of tea with lots of sugar in it helps smooth the throat.

I take asprin because its an antiflammatory and analgesic. If I take it soon enough it helps.

Those cough-drop-like Vitamin C drops are good. I know you're not supposed to go over the dosage on the package, but take three at a time and let them dissolve right on the throat - not in the cheek. Generic/store brand are fifty cents a bag where I live. I am convinced that this "soaking" the throat in Vitamin C drops can be very effective. Maybe its just the sugar in them, but I've found they help more than plain cough drops.

The "fake" Halls honey-lemon (store brand is fifty cents a bag) also help smooth things out. These are for when you've already taken three of the Vitamin C's.

Extra orange juice -More vitamin C, but I swear by this as well.

Campbell's chicken rice soup with a lot of salt in it.

Rinsing your mouth/throat with salt and warm water.

Antibacterial mouthwash can't hurt.

For the congestion: Asian spicy soup that is sold in supermarkets in the "international foods" aisle. It comes in a styrofoam bowl with a seal on top that has Asian lettering. It doesn't taste bad at all (it is hot), and I've found that it was shocking how quickly I brought up stuff I didn't even know was still there after a cold. (Unpleasant talk, I know - sorry)

Clementines!!

I also find that Coke or Pepsi with a lot of ice (that makes it more watery) makes a throat feel better.

If you really don't want to use cough drops or vitamin C's there are honey/horehound drops (and the company that makes them also makes cherry drops). Plain old lemon drops that are sold in most candy aisles are good. Maybe even butterscotch had candy would help. There's also green (lime) fruit juice bars sold where they sell Popsycles.

The above are the only tricks I know and use. Other than aspirin I pretty much never take any medications.
