Mmm. A big bowl of chili and some warm sourdough buns with margarine on them. Good for dipping!

I top my chili with fresh chopped red onions, cheese, a dab of sour cream and Tapatio hot sauce.
When I make chili, I also make cornbread. I make it fairly sweet and throw some canned diced green chiles and sharp cheddar in the cornbread batter. Very good any time, but simply smashing with chili!
I've also made chili pot pies before, since everything tastes good in pastry. Just make a homemade pie crust, ladle your cooked, homemade chili into it, top with another crust and then bake until the crust is well browned. Serve with a green salad on the side with a salsa ranch salad dressing. Just mix ranch dressing with a bit of your favorite salsa to taste and you have salsa ranch salad dressing.
A salad of sliced tomatoes and Queso Fresco, drizzled with a light homemade vinegrette goes good with it, too. It's a nice counterpoint to the chili, I think. I've also done a salad of sliced avocado and tomato dressed in a vinegrette, and that worked well with the chili. An orange and onion salad would be good as well. Though I've not yet had it with chili, it's only because I've not yet made chili this year and the thought only recently occured to me.
I just feel that anything that would serve to offset the richness of the chili (and if yours is anything like mine, it's very rich) is nice, but that cornbread is a definite MUST, no matter how it's made.
Oh, and don't forget the ice cold beer! I almost did!

Well up in Cheddar country you got to have cubes of sharp cheddar cheese either eaten on the side or added to the chili at the table while eating. Other Wisconsin cheeses would be cattage cheeses, cheese balls or logs.
You got to have saltine cracker too, ritz is an ok substitute. I'm a man so forget all the salads and that goofy stuff just a huge bowl and a large spoon.

I grate some cheddar right on top of it. Yum! Plenty of room for crackers. and I must have a glass of milk on the side.
Sometimes a toasted cheese sandwich is what is called for.
Some chili cheese Fritos would be nice, too.

When we have chili at our house we have shredded cheese, sour cream and diced green onions for topping. My sons also like bread and peanut butter sandwiches with it. And of course crackers.
