I trained to become a driving instructor about 3 years ago and I have just recently started up my own business. Is it possible for me to claim some of the fees back? If so how can I do this?

Actually it is not a timing problem - if it was you could always make an adjustment for a prior year - but it would not be allowable anyway.

Training in a new skill is not an allowable deduction for UK tax purposes. You could, however, claim for othe course, eg if you do any update/improvement courses relating to the job you are already doing.

No it is not possible. Expenses to set against your taxable income must relate to the tax year or the basis period you are assessed on for a tax year.
For example, if you went on a refresher course this year, that would be an allowable expense in this years tax return or your current basis period (otherwise known as your accounting period).

No, you weren't self employed at the time. It's too late.

maybe you should contact your local tax office place. And they can help you and explain how to do it and stuff.
