Last night while sleeping, I was awaken by a persistent whispering of the name "Robert" or something similar being whispered loudly into my ear, even though I was alone in the room and I had earplugs in. What kind of psychic or afterlife messages could this mean? Serious answers only please!

I don't mean this in a rude way, but have you considered that this is an auditory hallucination? I think this is something you need to look into.
Oh, and BTW, I am being treated for mental illness myself, and it is nothing to be ashamed of or frightened of. But my sister had auditory hallucinations, the type you describe, and they have gone away since beginning her own psychiatric treatment.
Please don't dismiss this answer. Often these events seem to you like they have significance or even a connection to a higher spirit. It might be difficult to accept, but please consider.

Is there someone in your life with that name?Or does someone you know have a friend or realitive named Robert?
Search down every path you can before asking.Most of us are able to determine our own dreams & weird experiences before we let others in on them.You just have to relax & stop stressing over it.

Are you sure you were ACTUALLY awakened? I sometimes dream of actually being in my bedroom. Also, for me the line between sleep and wakefulness is sometimes blurred.
