I am volunteering tomorrow at a Habitat For Humanity Event in Del Amo, California. I have been assigned to be a "Greeter" at the event and wanted to ask how I should dress.

It is some sort of event so should I go in a suit or casual like a button up and jeans? Thanks!

Greeters would probably just want to wear khakis and a Habitat for Humanity shirt. A nice nametag might be nice, too.

If you're going to actually work on the building, that's totally different.

warm weather:
Dickies Coveralls, breathable undershirt, coarse leather work gloves, baseball hat, wet towel across back of neck, and sunscreen (SPF 100) , anti-slip mid-top boots with steel toes (protection)

cold weather:
thermal pants and long sleeve shirt, Dickies Coveralls (collar turned up), insulated work gloves, baseball hat, anti-slip mid-top boots with steel toes, baseball hat or insulated cap

other items of interest :
safety work hat (bright yellow for visibility and hard shell to prevent head injuries from falling objects / stupidity)
Sunglasses
NO RINGS (on hands) , NECKLACES, OR EARRINGS should be worn, many people have lost hands in machinery after being 'pinched in". hanging necklaces can get caught in just about anything when you're leaning over working on something!

As a change of pace, I would dress like the president of the bank. The reason I say this is because wonderful people are involved in this organization. You really don't realize how many very connected people will show up to this. If you are dressed very well, they will speak to you maybe more than the normal clean cut jeans guy. They will want to know who YOU are. You might make connections that will allow you to get a better job, do a project, or who knows what. Dont lose this opportunity by BLENDING in.

Are they building, or is it a fundraiser? If they're building, you'll want work clothes. But if it's a fundraiser, khakis and a button shirt would look great.

Usually volunteers wear jeans, thick soled sneakers or boots and layers of shirts and sweatshirts.

Have fun!!
