He runs like a mad man through the house with the other smaller one, and he's still large and in charge. And I don't give them treats. Just bowls of dry food. One bowl for each cat every day. He's got love handles for crying out loud!

Feed the smaller cats in a separate room and make sure the big guy sticks to his own food. And obviously, don't overfeed him. Don't get suckered into the 'meow, give me treats please, I'm starving' bit either.
If his weight still stays particularly high, he may have a thyroid problem. My aunt's cat is the Supreme Ruler of the kitty obesity land and he gets very normal portions of lean, weight-reduction formula cat food. Because of the thyroid problem.

HEY CAT LADY! (there is a really funny doll being sold called the "crazy cat lady action figure!" It's really a HOOT!) Adding a kitten to the mix sometimes livens up the household. What's one more, huh? NOW SERIOUSLY, Your cat most likely suffers from lack of exercise and too much eating. First the eating part: If you must separate him from the other cats, then do this - at least until he starts eating better. Get GOOD cat food for him. There are special diets for overweight cats (Nutro, Iams, and Science Diet have them). Read the cat food label for this information, and also make sure that the food contains no meat by-products. These cause allergies in animals over time. As for exercise, it is important to PLAY with your cat. You both will enjoy the activity. Get some little balls with bells in them and get him to chase them. And playing with a simple string always gets a reaction from my cats. Also, get him a nice tall cat scratcher with a platform on top. Set it in front of a window, so he needs to climb up to look out. If you need to get a second, smaller pedestal, then get that. He might not be in shape to make it up to the taller one.

i have a cat that's overweight, and a cat that's unusually underweight. but that's okay. the vet said hes just 'lanky'
my fat cat, has been losing some of his chunkiness lately,
but, that's mainly because he grew up having a pouch of whiskas wet pouch food every single morning for breakfast.
he hasn't lately, and hes lost alot of weight.
try switching to the weight control food? it does help a bit,
and make sure your cats getting a good amount of exercise,
make it play with toys more, buy it toys it will play with so its active.
alot of overweight cats are just lazy.

Hmmm.... well is it obese because you feed it too much or is it just naturally BIG?? Well, if its obese because you feed it too much....obvious answer is don't feed it as much. Only feed it its serving size throughout the day. And if its naturally big:P well, then I would take he or she to the vet to get checked out. Maybe the vet can have some options for your cat.
