There is no specific treatment for HFMD. Individual symptoms, such as fever and pain from the sores, may be eased with the use of medication. HFMD is a viral disease that has to run its course; many doctors do not issue medicine for this illness, unless the infection is severe. It is usually in the affected child's best interest to be kept home until the infection clears. Fever reducers will help to control high temperatures. Cool baths will also help bring temperature down.
Ok got that from Wikipedia. What I would add to it is oatmeal and if it is an option the beach salt water heals skin blisters well and does not sting as much as a bath at home would with salt added. Plus the beach keeps them distracted.

I had it when I was 13 and it was wasn't fun. I could only walk on the sides of my feet and I couldn't really eat. I took a bunch of tylenol but there was nothing else I could do but wait. I sat in a cool bath and drank a lot of cool liquids. The pain eased up a lot after about 5 days and then the sores in my mouth cleared up completely. Some of the blisters on my hands and feet were visible (but painless) for weeks after though.

You might try using 1/2c. white vinegar with 1/4 hydrogen peroxide and 1 cup water. give 2 teaspoons as needed. We use this when we have sores in the mouth (even use it on the baby) and it help clear them up and eases pain.
